Hi Jo Aaaawwwww shucks Twas nothing. Glad to hear someone has brought it. Also glad to see that you got some photos of the interior up on the forum. My computer was mucking up and i couldnt load the extra pixs . Asbestos is a bit of a worry... well not a bit.. a big bit of a worry. Keep us posted on the delivery and resto work. Its going to be a big job on the outside and windows. Look after those portholes. Hinge opens are a lot rarer than fixed. I found another ply van in a very sorry state on the weekend with fixed portholes. Roof hatch has been missing for sometime and the Myna birds have 2 nests in the top cupboards . Good chassis with safety hitch on FJ wheels. I asked if i could buy the portholes No .. Its $100 for birds and van take the lot Reddo

Hey Reddo, Don't worry, I'm treating the portholes like gold. That's the reason I removed them, the rubber is perished & the glass was loose & I didn't want to risk them on the truck. So I wrapped them up in cotton wool & now sleep with them ;D.......................just kidding, my son's cat thinks it owns my bed & wouldn't put up with having to share with portholes........it barely tolerates me! ;D When I get No 2 home, I'm going to put her on blocks under a tarp while I finish Tilly & have a long think about the technicalities of asbestos removal Jo

You mean to say you came all the way to Woodford and didn't continue on to Linville - just down the road!!! An interesting find you have there Jo - hope you get her home OK. Looks to be in good nick inside. So, when are we gonna see Tilly???

Settle down Ray.. Thats WOODVILLE near Maitland NSW not WOODFORD QLD . Its a big 16ft van and it is gunna take a fair bit of restoring. Roof is like .. sorta "padded" or quilted canvas' over ply about 1/4" thick. The padding may be what Jo is referring to when she mentioned asbestos like material. Cheers big ears Reddo

The girl got confused, sorry I tend to relate vintage vans with music festivals, so Woodford just slipped out ;D Reddo, the asbestos I was referring to is the yellow stuff a bit like the batts we use today, stuffed in all the walls & even the door, maybe the roof too I guess. As the van was built in early 50s, I'm assuming its asbestos. Jo

Jo, its not necessarily asbestos, but in the interests of not killing yourself, the neighbours etc do some research before you pull anything off. Try: www.asbestostrouble.com/identifyingAsbestos.htmIf it is, you have some legal obligations and the cost may outway the resto proposition. Cheers Chris

If it is yellow, wouldn't it be fibreglass insulation? ala batts. Breathing mask still recommended and can irritate the skin .
