There was a Jennison Pathfinder for sale on the site last year. Even though I live in Canberra and Dave the owner lived outside of Geelong my wife Michelle and I decided to take the plunge and buy our first Vintage Van. The van has been in Dave’s family since it was purchased, we think in 1957. For the last 20 years or so its been kept in an old chicken shed at Dave’s place. The end result … a leaky and moss covered van. Worst of all was the rot in the corner of the large hatch opening … Dave’s a mechanic and he helped repair the brakes and coupling so that the old lady could be towed back home. That all went well except when the hatch fell apart. Many weeks work saw the van able to be registered. She’s not restored but good enough for us to have a holiday in over the summer. Here we are on the road … And here are some shots with the old annex we picked up to go with the van … In this second shot you can see the massive hatch is open. The hatch is almost like a pop top... not surprising when you consider that Jennison applied for an Australian patent for a pop top caravan in 1937. So far so good … we now need to restore the van to its former glory. Will post more photos as we make progress … Gordon

Hi Gordon Welcome to the vintage van forum. The old van doesnt look too bad at all. Amazing what a bit of a tub will do for an old neglected van. The little fella on the extreme left in photo 4 looks happy about the whole idea of vintage vanning. One of the most common things that i read about on the forum when it comes to retrieving old vans and towing them home is the hatch collapsing or windows blowing in or out . There is no hard and fast rules for restoring an old van. Can be as simple as a scrub down and throw the family in for a good time away or, it can be total obsession and a complete rebiuld. Just remember no one is going to judge you on your workmanship. What you will find is They will compliment you on rescueing and old van and using it. Enjoy your new found hobby... its one the whole family can enjoy ;D. Reddo
