BEAUTILITY
Manufactured by Beautility Caravans
525 Hume Highway, Carramar, NSW
On 15 March 2011, Jennison posted the following:
Jaevan, a new member and friend of mine has been doing a major resto on his previously unknown make of bondwood VV. Some major ply replacement on the side and end and a full sand, paint and refit inside and out.
He has unearthed a 1960 newspaper hidden in the panelling so we have a construction date and has now found a makers plate on the inside under the side window.
It's a BEAUTILITY.....so there is a new one for us!
And Franklin1 responded on the same day:
When I did the Sydney newspaper research, the first year I came across the name Beautility was in 1958 (but they may have been in existence before that). The advert was for 3-berth and 4-berth vans, but no measurements or other van details given (other than prices). The address in the advert was 525 Hume Highway, Carramar. UB1704
I have no idea whether that address was the factory or a sales yard address. All I can say is that more often than not in the late '50s, the address given in caravan advertisements was the factory address. Most manufacturers were small-time and probably couldn't afford sales yards anyway. Most probably sold out of the front yard of the factory.
Another advert I have is from 1968, for a second-hand Beautility and it was 9ft 6ins length.
Jennison replied on 17 March 2011:
same adress appears on the makers plate Al, the photo of it is blurry but John doublechecked the plate today...
