I know this is short notice for everyone, as most people will have already made the decision to either go somewhere or stay at home for Easter. So if you’re in the undecided/flexible category, read on…
For $7/person/night (kids free) we can camp on the 5-10 acres of flat mown grassland fronting the mighty Clarence River at Harwood owned/occupied by the BIG RIVER SAILING CLUB. This is very easy to find & is only about 1km off the Pacific Highway.

Travelling North: Turn right off the Pacific Highway into Watts Lane approx 1km past the Harwood Bridge which spans the main arm of the Clarence River.
Travelling South: Turn left into Watts Lane, approx 5km further on from the Iluka turnoff.
Watts Lane is also the entrance to the Harwood Sugar Mill which is visible from the highway. Follow Watts Lane past the sugar mill entrance and turn right at the first T intersection and then follow the road along the river edge. The club is nestled in behind the Harwood Slipway.
We will have access to their Clubhouse with Men’s and Ladies showers and toilets (2 of each) plus a handicapped shower & toilet. The Clubhouse has town water, & a huge commercial kitchen with fridges, with seating and tables for approx 100. As this is a Club, we will have to leave all Clubhouse facilities clean when we depart, so that means ship shape & Bristol fashion. Aye aye sir!
Dogs on leads are allowed, please pick up after them. www.facebook.com/pages/Big-River-Sailing-Club/688199784627240
There is plenty to do in this area using Harwood as a central base. It’s 16 kms to Yamba and 28 kms to Iluka which both have great coastal National Parks with beautiful beaches such as Woody Head near Iluka, & Angourie near Yamba.
If you’re in the mood for a Highland Fling ye bonnie lassies & laddys, och it’s only 8 kms to Maclean (a wee Scottish picturesque town further up the River) which has the gathering of the Clan on over Easter 3rd & 4th April, with bands coming from all over Australia to perform in a street parade & at the Showground. www.macleanhighlandgathering.com.au/

If you feel like just lounging about the Riverbank at the BRSC, the Ancient Mariners (a group of older sailors) take their boats out on Fridays, so you can rent a boat for the day for $7-$10 and have a sail. We will be bringing our kayaks for a paddle as the Club has 2 boat ramps. Bring your own soccer ball or cricket gear for a game!! We’ll bring our Boules.
Even though we will be camping near the Clubhouse, please bring extension cords.
PM/email me, or post in this thread if you want to come & what days you wish to be there. It’d be nice to have some idea of numbers. Thanks.
