Hi everyone My little Supalite arrived from Melbourne and we've been stripping off lots of old paint. As you can see we have a few repairs to carry out before painting. We have found heaps of helpful tips on the forum. Front and side are almost ready for sanding now and I have started on the roof and inside. . Sorry the kitchen is side on. This is my first time with the photos. We'd love to keep it close to original. Can any one help on how we should paint her.I'll post more photos when we get her all cleaned up.

mel .....thats a great looking van that you have ... and it's great to see another beautiful little van being restored to it's former glory ...and the fact that it's a bondy with a porthole and all makes it even more special ..... she looks a real treasure, and i'm sure it's going to come up looking like a real treat .... at least one other member here ..."kingy" has a supalite - well at least i think that it's the same brand ... if you do a search thru this "members photo section" and look for kingy's resto threads (from memory he has two) you will see the brilliant work that he has done on his bond wood vans - i found his threads ... and one started by Cobber (which is a way back i think) very inspiring ... there are also several other threads that cover the resto of bond woods that have tons of fantastic info in them .... i'm sorry but it's late and i just can't think of the thread names at the moment ... but i spent quite a bit of time looking thru most of them with note pad and paper before starting my own resto .... on the subject of paint ... again if you read thru a few threads you will realize that we are all experts, each with our own opinion of what is right ;D ;D ;D ..... the reality is that there is probably more than one way to "skin a cat" (apologies to all the cat lovers ) .... and i guess that we all pick a path thru our own resto that's "right" for us, our van and our budget at the time .... i found lots of different opinions about the best approach to painting bond wood etc when i looked thru some of the threads ... but in the end took quite a different approach - but i'm very happy with that approach ... and feel that i have done (almost) the very best for my van ... i haven't as yet "revealed" what paints i used during the resto that i am doing .... but expect to do a write up on the painting approach and rational that was used in the 150 Don resto thread sometime over the next week (work permitting) so it may be of some interest to you to have a read thru that thread as well (and while you are at it - have a go at the guessing competition - "what's in the bag" to win a free v van T shirt or calender or camping book etc ;D ) ... if you can wait that long ... finally, just a suggestion - it's a good idea to put the city... or at least what state you live in.... in your "profile" - it makes it a bit easier to get more specific help if people have a rough idea of where you are ... keep up the good work ... and remember, we all like lot's of pics ;D ;D ;D ..... regards, and welcome A|T

Thanks so much A/T. I will definately read through the forum and get as many ideas as possible. We also have a friend that is a panel beater. He has taken a bit of an interest in the van. I know that he has made some suggestion to my hubby about different types of paints. Colour wise I think the van was originally cream on the side and a pastel green over the roof. I did purchase some 1950's barkcloth fabric to cover the seats and maybe some curtains. The fabric is navy, blue to grey so maybe cream side and smokey blue roof. I know we are a fair way off painting but I'm happy to hear any ideas on stripes or colour schemes. Oh, we're in the Sydney area. Thanks Mel.

Hi Mel, I inspected your van in Melbourne and decided it was a bit too much work for what I wanted, seems I was correct in my view.
You are doing a fabulous job and I look forward to seeing its progress.
Are you going to leave the wheelbarrow wheels on it?
best wishes, Leigh.

Hi Leigh, Can you believe she towed beautifully (yet slowly) all the way to Sydney with those funny little wheels. We are going to put some bigger wheels on. My hubby has one wheel off already. He wants change the sides and put on some white walls but I'd just like to leave the sides as they are. As you might know we bought the van on ebay without seeing it first. kb3 was excellent and honest about her condition so we haven't found to many surprises. The whole family is getting in on the act which is making the going a little easier. I think it going to be worth it in the end. Thanks Mel.

Hi Dale, Don't worry! We expected to find the unexpected under all that paint and every thing can be fixed or tidied up. We're very happy with her. I will post more photos once she's all cleaned up. Merry Christmas, Mel.
