Dave, Could you tell me if your Carlite has the same tow bar coupling as humpty’s (shown on page 1 of his thread) or do you have a “Brockhouse” coupling. The reason I ask is because my ‘36 van has a “Brockhouse” that surprisingly accepts a 50mm ball, which is the standard here nowadays but wasn’t back in 1936, 1 7/8” would have been the standard back then I suspect. Can you tell me what is the standard ball size now in the UK, what it would have been 60 years ago and, if I’m not pushing my luck, would you know what the standard size is on the other side of the Channel.... then and now. I am intreguied to know why the "Brockhouse" I have, made in 1935/6 is able to accept a 50mm ball, when I don't think that would have been the standard size either here or in the UK then, but maybe it was the norm in Europe . Cobber.

Our standard in the UK is 50mm, have no idea what it was as early as your van.

hi cobber ref the brockhouse coupling. the ball size was standardized around the mid 1930s at 2.inch's this remained in use until the early 196OS a 2.inch hitch will go on a 50mm ball but it is a slack fit emergency use only ! hope this helps. limey Paul . 1925 wincherster . 1931 carcrusier model 4 .1958 airsteram silver cloud.
