Howdy all, I hope this works.....not good with computers. This is my van which I have had for about 3 yrs. It was in fairly good nick to start with so was easy to tidy up. I have touched up the signwriting on the side and back that says Sportline, but am unsure whether this is the actual manufacturer. The size is 10' x 6'

Hi Urkel1965 and welcome to the forum.Your van looks very well matched to your Humpy Holden and from the looks of the photo ( hard to tell from the size of photo ) it seems similar in shape to Globetrotter brand caravans ( Globe caravans, South Australia).
Don't worry 'bout not being good at computers.I'm too computer illiterate to know how to post a pic up here so your one up on me already ;D
Someone here will know something about your van's manufacture I'm sure.
Cheers,
Terry.

A previous owner replaced the ice chest with a fridge, which keeps beer at just the right temperature

Welcome to the forum Urkel1965.
That's a nice combo you have there. The Sportline has nice lines.
Are you thinking of coming to the Vintage Caravan Nationals at Mount Gambier in March next year? It would be a nice little run for you from Pinnaroo and I'm sure everyone would enjoy looking at your vehicle and van.

Hi Don, Funny you should mention the rally. I have printed all the details on that, from the web, and am already thinking seriously about it. Cheers

Has a very Globetrotterish roof shape and kinda/sort of a globetrotter look about it but its resemblence to a globetrotter ends there. Very '60's type van and nice and clean.
Bet your happy with it!!

Hi All, After owning my EJ for 14 yrs, and the Grandies having it since new before me, I decided it was time for it to be able to tow something. So 6 wks ago, I put a tow bar on the old girl and last weekend, set off on a weekend rally to Naracoote with the van in tow. Was a little dubious, as she is 'sludgematic', but she handled it very well. I assume in the 60's, they towed things, so why not now. This is in a parking bay just out of Bordertown on the way down. Cheers

We have what we call the 'Pinnaroo Campout' once a year, which involves the Riverland, Murray Bridge and Bordertown car clubs. Some that stay in the park say they need a couple of 'soda's' to help them sleep, as the park is on a bend of the highway, and the trucks can be a bit roudy at night!!

That's one nice EJ Urkel. The perios SA plates and badges on the grille really make it a perfect looking touring package- just needs the old-style mesh stone sheild over the windscreen ;D
Cheers,
Gristy

I knew if I waited long enough, someone would name my van. At the SA gathering in Murray Bridge last week, Lazza gave me some info, then went off to confirm it. Sportline is infact the brand with the manufacturer being Fred Schraeder who traded out of Regency Rd Croydon SA. As I told Lazza in a PM, someone mentioned Schraeder to me previously, cant remember where, but perhaps the Mount Gambier Nats. On ya Lazza!! Cheers Steve

Hi Steve, Great to know that you have traced the ancestry of your van at last - very satisfying. You've had a lot of enjoyment out of your van already, and would no doubt continue you to do so even if its origins remained clouded in mystery, but knowing who built it and where just adds that little bit to the pleasure in having it. If memory serves me right, yours is the only Sportline that has appeared on the forum, which suggests that there are not many around. It's good that yours is in safe hands! Now that you've got the who and where info about Sportline vans, I'll start a new thread in the Down History Lane section and copy a couple of pics of your van to the thread. Hope that's OK. Don Ricardo
