It's been raining cats and dogs and my van is all WET like seriously wet the inside is wet and even worse the ply lining where I took the aluminum off for the electrician is wet!!!!!! hi carmel i don't think that one exposure to the wet weather is going to cause too much of a problem for you, water damage is usually caused by water leaks over a longer period of time. as far as the inside areas are concerned, they're partially protected by paintwork or surface linings, so i'd just give them a really good dry down with towels and make sure there aren't any areas left with water on them. it's a bit different where you have bare timber surfaces or where you've removed the outside panels and the back side of ply has become wet. i still don't think that one storm is going to cause too much trouble but as a precaution, why not paint all the wetted surfaces with a mix of 4:1 water and bondcrete (any hardware store) while the ply is still wet from the storm. the wet ply will encourage the bondcrete mix to absorb into the wood as deep as the rain has and when it dries out, not only will the dried bondcrete mix waterproof the surface of the ply but it will also act as a glueing agent deeper into the ply structure. i recently stuck two pieces of timber together (without clamping) using only the bondcrete and when i later split the join with a chisel, the glued faces kept the bond and the timber split just beside the join, so bondcrete will not only seal the plywood successfully but will also glue any tiny faults in the surface of the ply. (thanks kingfisher for your research). geoff 'n jude

Thank you soooo much Geoff 'n Jude I have been out in my van this morning with towels and anything g I could find giving the inside a good rub to dry her - yes I had reprinted the inside so I also think that not going to be long term. The ellectrician is here now doing his thing (safety 1st) no way I could even attempt wiring. The forecast for up here is warming up so I think I will leave the panel off till Sunday and use your advise Sunday is 26 so I should be ok - phew crisis averted!!!! I have another cover still in it's box and will put that back on until I get her windows back in

G'day Carmel, I hope today's gone a bit better for you than yesterday! It gave me a fit of the horrors to read your post of last night!! Hopefully the van's dried out a bit, and is no worse the wear for its bath. Good job it's going to be a warm weekend to help with the drying. Good luck with getting everything ship shape again, and with the work to get the van on the road so you can enjoy it. Don Ricardo
