STYLO CARAVANS
Manufactured by Mr ? Styles
Stylo Caravan Construction Co
45 Wattle Street, Haberfield NSW, and later
718 Parramatta Road, Croydon NSW
The post-WW II period saw a number of apparently new caravan manufacturers appear on the scene. One of these was Stylo Caravans.
The first reference to Stylo vans was in September 1945, when advertisements for their hire vans began to appear in the press, such as this one referring to 'Stylo Caravan Cruiser' published in the Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) on Wednesday, 19 September 1945 (page 18):

At this stage the firm was based in Haberfield. It is unclear whether Stylo was building their own caravans for hire purposes at this point. However, in 1947 Stylo began to advertise vans for both hire and sale, as revealed in this advertisement placed in the SMH of Wednesday, 9 July 1947 (page 15):

Later in 1947, Stylo began to advertise in the SMH that it also had a motor caravan (ie a motor home) for hire, as shown in this advert from Saturday, 8 November (page 25):

A further development for Stylo occurred in 1950, when an advert in the SMH published on Saturday, 12 August (page 21) indicates that it had moved some or all of its operations to a premises in Parramatta Road, Croydon:

Stylo was still operating at least until 1955, when it is listed in the trade directory in the Winser Caravan and Touring Manual for that year. Regrettably many of the caravan builders in the late 40's and early 50's restricted their promotional activities to simple line advertisements in the newspaper classifieds - no pictures, no descriptions. However, in the case of Stylo, there is a description and a photograph of one of its caravans posted on the Our Touring Past website here.
