Oops I did it again, these stray caravans just seem to follow me home (maybe that's coz they're hooked on the back of the car - oh yeh). Anyway, I left home at 7:50am this morning and got home at 8:35pm. See who can guess this one (it's not hard if you follow my posts) - the photos are below, and the clues are as follows: 1960's. All aluminium. 4 berth. venetian blinds. Needs a major resto. Photo 1: I was surprised at the mechanical overrun brakes, given the age. Photo 2: (This really gives it away for regular readers of my loopy postings) Any guesses? More pics and some answers to follow (I also have some questions too). Cheers, Tinnie

Pretty close Reddo, It has three wheels, and is beautiful in an ugly sort of way. Your probably not gunna like it coz it's tin. It is the van I put up a month or so back as a freebie. There was no interest in it and seeing as it had to be taken or it was facing a trip to the tip................well I had to save it. Link here - vintagecaravans.proboards30.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1170477551&page=1amazing how much better it looked after 20 mins at the local self serve car wash. it is one odball 1960s (well I assume early/mid sixties) Viscount, 15' X 7'. Despite having been sitting in the one spot for the last 25-30 years, after repacking bearings and putting new wheels on it towed really well. One of the gas bottles is even full! And it came with the original instruction card for the Shields gas stove. I still can't believe the tail lights - spewing a round reflector fell out of the tail light centre on one side on the way home. Complete on the inside with venetians, and the aluminium off the RHS. Took half the day to brace the side and fit ply board (Yep Reddo there's some timber on it ;D) to the side. Once I get the ally siding and windows etc cleaned out of it I will take some pics inside. Deal done with Mrs Tinnie: Sell the Roma (or whatever it is) , finish the Franklin Egg resto (and get rid of it) and then I can start on this one . It is going to need full rebuild....... Cheers, Tinnie ;D

Hey Geoff, A roadhaven for $300 How come it's not at your house, I thought you were Roadhaven Mad ;D ;D ;D ;D How bad is it? What age? No, dont tell me, my place already looks like a "Caravan Yard" And I don't want to hear that it's about to go to the tip or anything. As for the Viscount, well it was so unusual and I couldn't stand the idea of another old van getting hacked up and sent to the tip. I'd like to make the first "Hot Rod Van" - full rebuild, lower the suspension, give it a 2 foot top chop, set of moon discs, flame job . Or has it already been done?? Tinnie

G'day, I finally got off my butt, emptied the wall cladding out of 'Project Viscount' and took some photers. So here they are: Firstly, stripped the temporary ply wall cladding back off and hung the original ally cladding back on (roughly) I figured this was the best bet to avoid damage, as it is likely I won't be starting work on it for the next 4-6 months (got two other vans in front of it in the que). Inside pic (out of order here - oops) showing the temporary wall I put in for transport: general interior shot - check out the wierd countour of the drawers below the wardrobe: Inside pic, usual front dinette - all the stuff on the table came in the van: Rear single beds (RHS one has been pulled apart - water damage): LHS rear window, showing the groovy venetians and la-de-da curtains, and the reading light above the bed (there is one above each bed): The kitchen: Morphy-Richards (Astral) 2 way fridge, aside from the dirt it is like brand new inside, complete with original ice trays, drip tray under freezer. Apparently the fridge works on electricity, but Kev (the guy I got it from) said he didn't know how to start it on gas, so hadn't tried. The plaque on the stove (which also came with original installation instruction card from the manufacturer - Shields): Well I think that's about it probably bored the begezuz out of you all by now. Next lot of pics will follow when the restoration starts..........haven't decided exactly how to tackle that yet, I think it's gunna involve a complete 'decladding'. Cheers, Tinnie ;DMuddying the clean Franklin waters with a bit of Tin Viscount ;D

Hi Tinnie. You are one determined cookie. most people would have just given up when they seen the side of the van falling off Just about every tin van i have seen with wrap around windows front or back seem to suffer from water damage in that area. Must have something to do with the van flexing when travelling or maybe expansion and contraction causes the [problem. Once the sealant is cracked it allows in water and the "rot" starts from there. Otherwise she looks like a worthy project...... . One van is never enough Reddo

Thanks Reddo, in my case four will be enough ;D You are right about the corner perspex windows, I think part of the problem is that they also seem to condensate like there's no tomorrow compared to glass. In the case of this van, apparently the tyre on the RHS went flat and over the years of being like that water kept running to that side and eventually got in, the guy said the frame literally fell apart when he pulled the cladding off. At the moment the van has a lovely brick feature wall on that side ;D (it's parked up against the garage wall). I am keen to get stuck into it, but in order to avoid divorce, I must uphold my promise of finishing the Franklin Egg first, and then redo the door on the old Franklin and repaint it & the rest of the outside walls, and re-wire the 240V. All before March 2008. Oh well I finished a very hasty restoration this year prior to going away in March - completely re-roofed a polish sausage Cabana. Cheers, Gristy

Why has nobody dug out this thread for me thankyou Cobber. At least I know they came in green as I am having consternations over whether to re-paint mine pink or go with something different. Good to see they did come with the Morphy Fridge (thankyou Kaybee) Although I do envy the one in Jo's Viscount. I am trying to go as close to original as possible with V2 so this is wonderful.
