Nice one Tickos!
Is it home built or commercially built? I notice the twist buttons for the annexe - did that come with it?
You mentioned that the van found you. I have this vision of you relaxing at home one night, when there's a knock at the door. When you answer it there is a little caravan sitting on the doorstep asking if you have a garage it can sleep in for the night...

Nice find John & Lynelle, love the laminex pattern on the table & the ally roof will save a lot of work down the track. Does this mean we will see the mighty FC Holden towing a van now? Regards, Gary

Hiya john and Lynelle Great score. This is the way to find 'em folks. I know you will probably want to give it a spruce up with a bit of paint but....... i reckon this one is good enough to just hose off, sweep out and move in. The annexe turn buckles where used back in the early fifties. My old "just croozn" van had them on it. Although the clips are harder to reach when attaching the annexe and you tend to get a bit of a breeze through between them on the odd occassion i still think they are a better/easier idea than the stinkin brass marconni track i have on "matilda". Your van has very tall "shin pads" on the front . I love em , it gives the van character. Also notice a small aluminium plate under the front window?? Has she suffered some damage there or is it 'riginal??? Hubs look like early chev same as on the old TD from lockhart?? Someone will correct me on this point.. well at least i hope they do . Power inlet is on the "wrong" side like a lot of old vans from this era. My theory for putting them on the left side is that the lead and "live" plug is protected by the annexe when set up? ( see i do have some sensible thoughts between headaches ;D) Inside: Cushions look like summer/winter cushions... vinyl one side cotton the other. Noticed The kitchen sink has a later model water pump on it too. I have an old chrome over brass fynspray galley pump that would look more "period ". I would not make this offer to anyone other than a bondwood owner but, Just put your hand up if you want it and i will bring it to munmorah.... freeby, nix, gratis You realise that now that you have two vans there will be some seriously heated debates between family members as to which van to take to our get togethers. i suppose your other van will win for now seeing as though the new/old one is not regoed Your "royal society for preservation of bondwood caravans" sports coat and lapel pin are on there way.... wear them with pride. G'day John & Lynelle, That's a nice little bit of "Australia's Touring Heritage", if vans like that aren't found now, and preserved, they will soon be extinct. Bring it to Munmorah, I'd love to see John sleeping up there on the top bunk ;D....and don't lose that jockywheel set up will you, it's worth quids Cobber.

Hi VVs The table is not laminex its lino the same as the floor and the roof is painted with silver sealing paint and no its not being towed by the FC as I lost the rags for the head lights so it cant see the hills coming. The ally bit under the window was another window for the bottom bunk but was removed. The wheels are I dont know but they have Morris cowley caps on the centers and the van came with 2 brand new cross plys spare the wheels are 5 stud and 15"x 5.90. Yes reddo for the pump a fewwwww ales as payment.

Good pickup there Tickos, gotta be happy with that!! Love seeing those Barn Find projects.Like opening up a time capsule isn't it. Looks good enough for a wash and use as is. Has the same annexe turn buckles as mine ( mine built in 1953 ), same clearance lights, same "horse stable" door, and same porthole. The porthole was sold by Carapark and appears in an advertisement in a Keith Winser book that came with my van.Its even the same colour as mine!!( side colour ) Your van is a similar style and shape to mine so based on the known built date of my van I'd guess yours would be an early to mid 1950's.It looks similar to a plan in my Keith Winser book so will find it and have a closer look at the plan if you want.
Terry.

Another good score, well done Ticko's, what an advantage getting hold of a van that appears to need little work, if any, depending what you intend doing with it. Both my vans have needed a lot of work, the first needing the back rebuilt, then the inside needing a total makeover, the second having a good sound body and frame, but a slapped together interior by the original owner (he bought it as a rolling shell) I'd love to get a van like yours (my thoughts only) where no rebuilding or major repairs are required, just a major workover to bring it back to it's former glory. We'll see what the next van brings Enjoy it --- she's a ripper --- Kingy

Well done Ticko's,
another gem saved for posterity ( I think I'll change my name to posterity and claim all those really nice things people have saved for me!)
I suspect the bunks may have been fitted later as the top bunk seems to be halfway up the main window and the position of the smaller window seems cramped up under the big one. Any evidence of Mr Builder having been in there? I suspect the original owner's family was growing!
Good luck with it, I suggest do the absolute minimum to it and get it out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers,
Leigh.
