Hi to all, just a quick note of introduction. My wife & I purchased a '32 Ford Roadster back in '99. A couple of weeks later the guy I bought it from rang & asked if we were interested in the teardrop that they used to tow behind the car. Needless to say we were soon the proud owners. Our first outing with it was to Wagga Swap Meet which is where the attached photos come from. At Easter 2000 we took the TD & roadster to Cleveland near Brisbane for Regional Streetrod Nationals & spent a comfortable 23 nights in the van. Needless to say we both love it. I sold the roadster in 2002 & have almost finished building a '36 Ford Coupe. We kept the TD & will eventually repaint it to match the '36. At the time of purchase we were told that the TD was a late '40's or early '50's Sportsman. The chassis is quite new & I believe was built in the mid '90's. At Ballarat Swap Meet a couple of years ago I came across a fairly large Sportsman badge & have been thinking of having a couple of new ones made. What I would really like to know is whether or not the TD is a Sportsman & if not can anyone shed any light on what it might be. I hadn't heard of this site but was encouraged to have a look by Colin & Kris Bates, thanks guys. Cheers, Peter.

HI peter, I doubt very much if the van you have is a Sportsman, looks like a modern reproduction TD and has a completly different shape to the Sportsmans I have seen/ own. I am happy to come and have a look at it if you wish. Let me know and we will get together. As far as I know only post war Sportsmans have badges, the earlier ones had Sportsman hand written above the door. I would love a badge, are you going to get some repros done? If not could I beg, borrow, steal, buy, have donated the badge you have so I can do some!
Cheers for now,
Leigh.

Hi Leigh, thanks for your reply. I'd be happy for you to have a look at the TD & give me your thoughts. The van is currently stored at Menzies Creek as my garage is overfull with Ford bits. Some parts of the TD seem ancient whilst others are most definitely quite new. The guy I bought it from said it was being used as a go-kart transporter when he purchased it & that it was in pretty poor condition. Regardless, we love it & plan to use it heaps once the coupe is on the road. It's been sitting for the best part of two years now & we're both missing it. Re the badge, I'm not sure how many to get made, I need to check out costing etc. I'll keep in touch. If you want to ring me, my mobile is 0402 257097 or home phone 9779 3452. Cheers, Peter.

Gday Peter. Thats a bloody nice teardrop you have there whether or not its an oldie or a newie. The shape to me looks "just right" and the guards certainly look in the same style as the flowing lines of the TD. I'm heading down your way in 10 weeks to Warburton ( going to visit the Kaybee's while I'm down there... if thats still OK Col ?? ) and wouldn't mind saying hello and having a looky see at your T.D in the flesh if agreeable with you. I'll send you a PM. Terry and Grumblebum ( AKA...Theresa... she hates me calling her Grumblebum...so thats why I do it......OUCH... what was that for....darling )
