Hi,
I have a concern that this Forum is going the way of the moronic facebook & twitter, where people bleed their heart over trivial crap. After all the Forum is meant to be about Vintage Caravans & related stuff, not the type of crap that seems to constitute Facebook & twitter
I also believe we wont see the same moderators back unfortunately. Come on Mark, you set this saga up, so why not tell us supporters what you are intending to do.
Its Australian to be up front & honest.

Hi Surf Tragic & others, Dont you notice that the silence from Mark is DEAFENING??? I cant see anyone returning, unless he changes his mind. I used to get phone calls from Mark occassionly to ask opinions & things, but I guess he has forgot my number I,ve been a member as long as most, & always tried to do what I can to support what is a great Forum (in my opinion). Sure I,ve probably upset more than most do, but stiff. You never get anywhere unless you make comments & express opinions. Silence doesnt cause anything to happen. Ah well, I can only hope my comments will bring a positive result, as has been expressed by the number of members that are saying they like what I have said. Its still meant to be fun JBJ

Hi All
Responding to some of the comments about how things might change, and concerns about everything getting dumbed down, I can understand why people feel as they do. There's so much value in things like DHL, and the detailed technical posts people provide. And I'm not really a social media person myself, but a lot of people are, and ignoring it is a bit like ignoring a Tsunami. Like it or not, you're going to get wet!
TinCanTourists (an equivalent sort of group in the USA) modernised by expanding their approach rather than trying to make one avenue suit all sorts. They have forums, for detailed technical postings, and topical discussion. They also have a Facebook page, which tends to attract the photo shows, and other quick and dirty sort of responses. Maybe it should be about horses for courses, rather than making it one size fits all - then people can gravitate to what they like.
Just a thought - Seeshell

hi Seashell, With the utmost of respect to you on your comment about the Tsunami, only those that live near the coast get affected. So those of us that live in the hills behind the coast arent affected, so I guess the world will continue in its way if I continue to ignore & refuse to use Facebook. JBJ

Deafening silence... You have only just noticed...?? Its been like that for a good few years now. I would have thought the man that started it all... The founder of the website .. then the forum ... would have dived in every now and again with what he has been working on in the way of vintage vans... You know... lead by example... As for facebook....??..which I see has snuck in in the past 24 hours across the top of the posts??... (Cutting edge stuff for a forum don't you think???)... Have we become that Bored and disinterested in doing up old vans that we need to be liking or disliking every single thing we say or do in life... Come on adults !!!! While ever there is Blood in my veins .... light outside during the day .......and fluros in the shed at night to allow me to actually WORK ON A VINTAGE VAN...you wont find me...Propped up in front of the idiot box wasting my time pushing "Like " and "dislike" buttons over school kid crap that gets served up every 20 seconds on facebook.. Life is far , far too short to be playing that game... Happy to discuss vintage vans , tow cars and other stuff relevant to the restoration and use of old vans,,,,but Facebook... ooooo please spare us !!! Regards Reddo

What I find rather sad in regards to whatever is about to unfold, is that a veil of secrecy has to be thrown over it all. Why??? It was always espoused that this forum wouldn't exist without its members and that it is the members who make a forum. I further recall our administrator passing the hat around a few years ago, so that necessary upgrades could be made to the site, for it to continue. A lot of forum members responded to that call and put their money where their mouth was, to support the forum. OK, so its grown, but why not take the members along for the ride with this growth and keep them in the loop? Why was it found necessary to wait until after the Nationals to have this reshuffle/revamp? Will it be THAT controversial? It's just begging others to start their own sites in direct competition, as it has already done.
I'll get off my pulpit now!!
Ray
Oh, I haven't dipped my "Thank you" hat to the scribe of the forum - Don Ricardo! I envy your patience and doggedness in sorting out the caravan history section, and am totally jealous of your writing skills. It makes me wonder whether Donna R was not your dictator!! I hear she can deliver a rather mean sermon!

JBJ Hi Dennis Like I said, if it's not your thing, I say don't get involved with it. My thought was that if there was a mix of different "channels" (to use the lingo) was for people interested in a less "technical focus", maybe they'd stay down at the beach out of your hills! I don't think the forum will benefit from going "lite" - it's only likely to piss off those who like it as it is, and it still won't be new media enough for those people who are totally into social media. I think you need a complementary, related but totally separate experience for these VERY different groups. Cheers Carley

Thats great to hear Mark that there's not going to be too many changes!
I'm not on Facebook (& don't want to be either). I work with a lot of younger women & most of them say "they're over FB" as "it takes too many hours out of their day & is just a lot of crap anyway". Just what we old fogies suspected! Another friend(member of this Forum) is on a bunch of FB pages & says it can get pretty rough on FB. People can just say whatever they like with no Mods to edit nasty comments. Funnily enough, people are already moving from FB to different forums. But I can also see the benefit of FB being the ease of photo posting. smiles

Hi all,
I have had a ball with all the goings on here and trust that will continue into the future.
To Mark and all the moderators who have done so much over the many years I have been involved a huge thanks.
I have had my Sportsman for nearly 20 years and have hauled it all over Aus having a ball the whole time. The forum has added to this greatly having found so many friends and encouraged me to buy and restore the Clipper. I tend to be more of a user than a shower with my vans, the Clipper is actually going up to Winton this weekend to provide a home base for me for the Historic Race meeting.
I have been quiet on the forum for a while now, many reasons for this not the least of which is my terrible internet service at home. I do however look in here nearly every day so still have a keen behind the scenes interest.
My very best to all who are "retiring" and all the best to whoever takes on whatever needs doing to keep this alive.
Leigh.

As a relatively newcomer to this forum, I say thank you to the moderators and other members for such great input. The amount of knowledge accumulated here is awesome. There are a few things in life that are inevitable, death, taxes and CHANGE.
Delighted to see the LIKE button - those of you who are anti - think of it more as an acknowledgment you can make when you don't necessarily have something to add to the conversation.
Will watch with interest for future changes.

here here willow5075, exactly, it's human nature to resist change, but in the IT world we do need to embrace it a bit some times. Just imagine if we were all trying to access the Internet and posting to this forum back in the early days of home computing in the mid to late 80s with our trusty and extremely slow IBM-PC 8 Bit machines or Super fast XP machines running DOS and maybe windows 2.0 if you were lucky (not that it helped to be user friendly in any way...). Just getting connected to something like the Internet was a marathon of oober geekieness in those days. Luckily computers have evolved to become more user friendly, with a simple click and the internet is there on your tablet, phone or computer. Just in the same way future changes will make this forum more interesting, and user friendly, crating a better environment and experience for sharing and discussing our passion of the past. (However sometimes the tools we use don't need to be in the past...)
