Hi All. Yep been a very long time since I posted but I lurk regularly. for the firts time in three years (Think canungra was the last time) Im going to take princess Helen out for a weekend. Sadly she has suffered a bit from lack of use and theres been a bit of repair work going on. What I would like to know is how to polish the aluminium sheet at the front of the van? Any idea out there? cheers Owen AKA Scoot

Giday Scoot ! Get a bottle of purple polish from any car or truck suppliers and some deoxidiser if it's really bad! Follow instructions on the bottle ! Be sure to have a big breakfast before " wax on, wax off" you'll need it! If you have a buffer all the better but still eat the big breakky ! Cheers Andrew

Hi Scoot
i have been polishing the cladding on the 1967 Franklin which has the textured diamond pattern.
First i have been using a mid grade steel wool to clean out the grooves.
For polishing I have tried a few brands but among them all Autosol which i bought in a large tin for $54 would do my 20' several times over at least. Using a lambs wool buff on very slow speed, initially it will go black. With some of the more expensive products some water from a squirt bottle was needed to help it spread but the Autosol seems to not need any water.
When i initially started i proceeded very gingerly not wanting to buff off the pattern. I'v never used a buff before. However i found that it is possible to lay into it quite a bit and not hurt the pattern.
after it goes black move forward and let the initial area dry a bit and keeping moving eventually it will begin to brighten u beautifully.
Finally if you want a mirror finish i was also pointed to a Meguiars swirl remover which is a very fine grade polish and with a new mop on it did give a slightly better finish and on flat sheet would certainly give a lift. I didn't think if made enough difference to the patterned sheets but I think i will give it a quick once over once the claddings all back on to give it a neater more consistant appearance.
I have heard many raving about Purple polish but could not find any, an Autobarn said they 'had heard of it' however I am very happy with the Autosol.
Best of luck
