Hello. Just wondering if anyone has successfully converted their van to solar? Our restoration is only just starting and we need a complete rewire. I want to remove all the gas fittings and just keep the power outlets, if we are near power!! I would love to hear about the pros and cons.

Hi saga60a I've had solar in my 68 Viscount for the last 5 years. My setup includes 100w panel and 2x 100ah AGM batteries using a solar charge controller. A 1000Watt pure sine wave 240v power inverter. I've recently upgraded to LifePo4 batteries because they're lighter and provide more power and longer life. If weight is a consideration, I would recommend the following solar panels. Semi flexible solar panel - And these batteries: LifePo4 BatteriesCheers Oz

As good batteries are $400 and good 200w solar panels are $230 i would suggest that you get more panel and less batteries so the panels can run what you need during the day and charge the batteries at the same time , with the power left over the batteries will get fully charged which is what you need for the nite time power use . i have just done this on a modern van and needed the gen set one day in a month . 2 x 200w panels and 2 x 100 amp hour batteries , to many ins and outs and ups and downs to discuss solar set ups on a forum . you need to see a retailer and tell them what you need to run , but the problem is every one will give you a different answer/opinion . cheers kel.
