Yeah JBJ, they had a convertible divan......I took mine out and threw it away, weighs a ton!!. The ice chest is the same as in the one I am working on now, but the door swings from the other side......must get off my butt and do some "pitchas"............I'll talk to Reddo on the weekend to see how you do a run of photos with commentary as he has done on his TD posting ( I only know how to do it one post at a time!)

Hey JBJ Finally scored an icebox that actually fits into the Superb (well perhaps only the innards as the ply sides and back are shot) It has all the trays etc and even the front door and hinges are in good nick! Cost me $1.00 at the local tip. Some bloke obviously wrecked an old van and dumped the cupboards! All good things come to those who wait ............... and wait ................... and wait ;D ;D Ray Notice I am now "God almoghty" too now!!! Wonder what my Bishop would say about that Ray

Thankyou, Jailbarjuice, very much for posting these pictures for me.I'll change my I.D. now as 1963 is not correct any more. The restoration has to wait 'cos my wife Jen says I have to finish the house first .Any hints or tips on lifting the glass body off so I can rebuild the chassis and put in a new floor? ???Paul and Jen

G'day Paul & Jen, So if your not sl1963 anymore ....what are you, or what year is your Sunliner In your restoration try to avoid taking ALL the paint off the surface..........I am doing the paint on mine right now....and after 2 coats of primer..sand off.......2 coats of spray putty and sand back I am nearly ready for another coat of undercoat....and a spray putty again.....then rub back to see if all the little holes have sucked it in yet!!!...then we might be ready for the colour coat (the easy bit) I have done the interior and am quite happy with that ;D ;D

Hi Folks,I'm calling myself Kollectamaniac (after my love of junk heaps and their discarded treasures ) instead of sl1963 'cos I can't yet ID the accurate age of my van. I have got permission to start on the renovation after a particularly unpleasant camping trip with too much wind and noisy neighbours . So now I'm in the market for a replacement chassis for my 1959/60 sunliner.Has anyone got a spare one? I may have to weld one up myself if there isn't one around .Thanks everyone for the previous feedback, I'm going to need it now and the contacts too over the next few months and I'll try to master piccy posting too to show you the reno. Paul.

I know I'm coming late to this thread, but my Sunliner has an icebox just like that one, and the convertible divan. The divan works well and goes from bed into couch BUT all the inside stuffing has been eaten out (and worse) by mice - am not sure it can be resuscitated. I love it because it's a great fit - curves into the corners of the van, but it is also (besides very stinky) really heavy. So I don't know what to do. It's sitting under the carport while I think about it, and continue sanding the outside....! I was also lucky to have a few original cushions left, so I can use them for copies (this is starting to sound pricey) when I figure out who does that sort of thing. Car upholstery people? B

Most of us Sunliner people have ditched the divan and constructed a fixed double (caravan double) bed in its place.
Also it can provide you with storage under.........or have drawers there.
Where are you ......majority of Sunliner owners are in Newcastle........but not ALL!
Regards Humpty

I believe there is also someone in Newcastle that was briefly a Sunliner owner, but is now in denial of that brief period in his life. Now who could that be ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Tinnieasicanbeuntilreddocathesupwithme ;D

Miaow, If you like the Divan concept you could always have the cushions remade in high density foam.....that would lighten the load............the same would apply to the front cushions, but have the back squabs done in medium density

Hi Miaow,
Noticed your question about caravan upholsterers and that you live in Melbourne. We get our caravan serviced by Hardings Caravan Services in Bayswater (I know, I know, I should learn to do it myself - but at least I know I can trust Hardings, which is more than I can say about my own mechanical ability!).
Hardings send out an occasional newsletter to clients, and in the Summer 2006/07 edition they listed various suppliers that they were willing to recommend. For caravan upholstery they listed J & P Upholstery in Silvan (phone 9737 9566). Silvan is probably miles from where you are, but it may be worth a phonecall. I've found that tradies enjoy the challenge of an older van, and admire the craftmanship with which the vans were built.
If J & P can't help, Hardings may be able to refer you to someone else (9729 8477). Hardings was established by a guy called Tom Harding who was in the trade for decades, and was the President of the Caravan Trades Association or whatever it's called. Tom is retired but takes caravan tour groups into the outback etc. He may well be available to provide advice if you run into problems.
Hope the info gets you somewhere.
