Geez Col You dont stuff about do ya!!!. Only had it a week and your halfway through a resto. Love the gaurds. i almost bid on a pair of '28 chev gaurds last week. they went for $110. Only thing that stopped me was they where in Vic and it would have cost another $100+ to get em to Newy. I will score a pair at a swap meet sooner or later. Your pix just goes to show the advantage of scoring an original complete TD as opposed to building one. A pleasant change for you, not having to work with a welder . just a sander, heat gun etc. your really lucky that the old girl had been stored in the dry. 10 years in the weather and the timber would have been a mess. Keep the updates coming. I am sure it will be well and truely finished by October. I am running the tape over the 'puter screen at the moment measuring your kitchen cupboard set up. I have a screwdriver in my other hand and i'm gunna stal your hubcaps With all this TD action appearing on the forum i am gunna have to get serious on the "look what the cat dragged in" TD project . yep Col i have seen the bloke that sells the M/c gaurds. The topic came up the other night at the bike club meeting. One of the boys mentioned that this bloke will roll any sized gaurd you like. i dont think he puts a rolled edge on the ends of the gaurds and you have to cut them to suit your lenth requirements. These gaurds have a rolled edge both sides al a motorbike style so if you plannned on mounting them they would have to be set up like an open wheeler sprint gaurd . I.E the gaurd is not bolted directly to the body but mounted on "J" shaped brackets .
The curved part of the "J" fits up across curved gaurd profile and the straight part of the "J" bolts to the sides of the van so you end up with the gaurd sitting away from the van body. sorta like the sprint gaurds they fitted to MG TCs for racing etc......... well at least thats what i was planning on doing with gaurds to suit the 2 - 17" X 4" 1934 chev wheels i got at gosford swap earlier this month.
Always on the look out for options at swap meets.
Cheers Reddo

Hi Kaybee Col, I was looking at the wheels on your Teardrop. They look similar to early VW Kombi (Split windsreen) but, I don't think they are... 40's and early 50's bugs and Kombis were 16" though. If they are VW they will have VW stamped on them. I'm about to head off to work for arvo shift and hopefully spend some "work time" tracking down some suitable guards on the phone. I was thinking the A Model Guards would be a bit big but, that was from an experts point of view so until I can see some I don't know Cheers Greg

Hi Col or should that read "butter fingers" Ice box faces upwards Lower back section doesnt hinge down . Im thinkin of installing my ice chest upright at a hieght that allows the door to swing open over the lower back panel... or if i mount it lower i will have a lower "tailgate" that hinges down. I am watching the resto with interest. Also followings gregs quest for mudgaurds to suit TDs. Reddo

Col, Those wheels could be L series Vauxhall (1947-51) as they were 16 inch and the same bolt pattern as VW. The hub cap was almost identical too except smooth like baby moons
