Here's a photo of my latest project. It's a vintage box trailer that was built by my neighbours, friends Grandfather in the 50's. All the timber is in excellent condition and it has glass tail lights and Holden wheels. It also has a pivoting draw bar that acts as a tipper when the trailer is full. Todd

Hi Todd
Whats the old sayin' "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder" To you it is a vintage box trailer. I say you need to see a phsyciatrist.
There was a nice little 5ft x 4ft timber trailer with wooden wheels on ebay a while back. i think it made about $400+ Dollars.
cheers mate Reddo

I'll have to agree with you reddo, it's a very goofy looking trailer but it was free and I can see potential in it (trying to convince myself there). I'm hoping to be able to start on it soon as I've made heaps of progress with the van in the last month.

Todd My oldman had a similar trailer. it use to have cypress pine floor boards for flooring ( makes sense aye). he usta fill 'er full of grass clippings and leave it sitting in the rain for months on end... sorta like a rolling compost heap. Then he had the hide to blow up about the floor buckling up from months of steam and heat. It had a 2" steam pipe drawbar. 2 giudepost reflectors for tailights and an old lucas tailight mounted over the number plate which i dont recall seeing it work .... ever. we must have repaired / rebuilt it a hundred times. Eventually we took a load of rubbish to the tip and just dropped it off the towball , undone the number plate and rego label and drove off. Working at the council i get to see some real monstrosities turn up at the landfill site ( goochy name for "the tip"). Its scary to think that these things are allowed on the road simply by paying an annual fee without inspection. Some of the repair jobs are less than perfect with people doin "birdshit home welding jobs" on drawbars, axles etc.. Then there is the home mechanic wheel bearing repairs. "Just stuff 'em full of grease and she'll be right mate!!! Waddya mean "Greases aint grease Sol".... any type of gunk that looks like grease will do !!! ....Ohh and dont forget to tighten that wheel bearing nut up as tight as you can get it with a three foot shifter, We dont want it comin' loose now do we??? clean up your mess and throw that split pin in the bin when ya finished too son... someone might stand on it... remember safety first.!!" ........and we share the highways with these potential rolling missiles. I derive pleasure from counting the number of boat and box trailers i find on the side of the highway during summer holidays "down on one knee" .. wheel off .. or completely missing as it has parted company from the trailer and headed bush. There is usually mum with the kids sulking at the front of the car while "the home mechanic" trys to free up that heat seized bearing which by this stage has lost all its ball bearings and the cage has turned to dust. Of Course nothing like this would ever happen to our well maintained vintage vans ..... now would it Reddontlooseyourbearings ;D
