Hi All, Well Canungra is only a few weeks away now, so it's about time that we started a thread. Dates:- Friday 15th, Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th November. Place:- Canungra Sports & Recreation Ground (Showground) Coburg Road, Canungra, QLD No need to officially phone up and make a booking, just turn up and enjoy yourself. The large undercover area, tables and chairs have been booked again for the Saturday. Note: we will need to have a gold coin collection in order to pay for the hire/rental. Once that is paid, any additional funds will go towards the McGrath Foundation. In memory of Ilse, we will again be having the Giveaway Table. Please only donate good quality items, i.e. something that you would like to have yourself. Santa will be visiting the kiddies again, so make sure you have a secret santas gift for each child with their name written on it. This year the fancy dress theme for the Saturday Night is "Movie Characters/ TV Characters".So that gives you lots of choice. After discussions with attendees re: cost - the catered dinner and dj (as per last year) have been dropped. I understand that a couple of iPod/iPhone Boom boxes will be there to supply music for dancing. ;D So for food, everyone will just supply their own food (and drink) and we will all meet in the hall as normal to eat and celebrate together. That way you have lots of choice as to whether you want to do your own camp oven or cook a steak on the bbq or just have a quick meal i.e sausages in their blankets etc etc. Please note that there have been major fires in and around Canungra in the last week and the weather is hotting us, so we may end up having a total fire ban. So just keep in mind that camp ovens and bbq's may not be allowed. Note: You may want to bring additional extension leads and/or power boards as power isn't always easiliy reached Also I understand that Campervan & Motorhome Club of Australia members will also be at Canungra that weekend, so space might be a bit tight. Regards Di P.S. I've noticed that politics has started creeping back onto the forum again in recent weeks . It really isn't needed and all it does is make everyone feel uncomfortable. Therefore can I please ask for everyone to leave the politics at home i.e. let's all just go away for a relaxing and fun weekend and enjoy ourselves . Thank you.

Hi Di
Thanks for helping bring the Canungra yearly event back to Earth again. As you said, we're all there to have a relaxing fun time in our vintage vans, with great people in a lovely location.
This is Canungras 6th year & we've already done camp ovens twice & catered meals 3 times so your current suggestions make the most sense to me! No one has to slave over a hot fire while the troops watch on; no one has to collect money for meals & stress about getting enough punters to make the spit roast thing financially viable. We have camp ovens at events in middle of year so I don't see the need to have camp ovens at every event. If there's no fire ban then fine, people can do their own thing!
My only suggestion is that we put all the tables in the middle of the concrete area for dinner & Santa etc so that it is less spread out & more friendly) & that we move the dancing area out onto the wooden deck ( bit kinder than concrete to dance on & not such glaring light out there). Of course if it storms we can always move the action back under shelter. Perhaps we could put Ilses Table up the front adjacent to the stage which could also be used for big objects for the giveaway?
I'm sure there's quite a lot of people who just want Canungra to be low key again with minimal organization, with input from everyone thru the year re dates, food, dress-ups etc. For example if we decided as a group to make a booking with the caretaker for the same time next year, it would be for 14,15,16 November 2014. But we might even think about moving Canungra to the October Long Weekend (now that NSW & QLD both share this long weekend) so everyone could do campfires/camp ovens? Just a few thoughts...

Hi All,
After just posting last week well would love to come to Canungra. We've just received an email that we have the end of year dancing school concert that same weekend again. So it is with disappointment we will not be able to make this great event.

Christmas in October... hasn't got the same ring to it - at least November rhymes with December But on a practical level, Canungra might be more crowded on long weekends - lots of locals go camping as well as groups, and they don't turn people away. Unless someone knows of a better location that we could book exclusively? Or better still, just have 2 Christmas parties!!! Yay!

Hi All,
Well after resolving a few things, & feeling sure we would have been able to mmake it to Canungra, Lady Luck stepped in & dealt a few rough cards.
I have several medical problems that are going to need several bouts of hospitalization, operations & recovery, so after having been under Doctors care since before Queenscliff, & having just spent 3 days in hospital for minor surgery, I find I need an operation next wednesday, then another about a month later. So with recuperating I'm probably unable to travel anywhere until about Christmas.
Bit of a bitch, because we havent missed a Canungra before. I was looking forward to resolving several petty issues that arose before, & getting back into the mainstream of SE Qld vintage vans. I had already taken the first steps to that before I learned of my procedure timetable.
I also have to miss Yamba Rod Run, something I've been going to with my hotrod since I first registered it around 96.
But when you cant avoid it, you have to accept things as they happen.
It's not much fun at the moment, but things generally improve with time.
JBJ

Sounds like you're keen for a rest this year! You've really done heaps the other years to keep it all together. There's plenty of other people available to organise, shift & move a few tables & chairs! That's the beauty of this group...everyone just pitches in & helps, even if they are sometimes a bit late! smiles

Hi all, I've received a PM from a newbie. So just some clarification / explanation for any newbies reading this that may want to attend. Anyone is welcome to come along to Canungra. You don't actually have to book with the caretaker. (Just remember at some time over the weekend to pop over and see him and pay for the amount of nights/people you have with you). You just turn up on the weekend and find a spot to park your van, somewhere in amoungst the other vintage vans. (Note that there are other groups staying at Canungra that weekend). Then have a chat with those near where you are thinking of parking and check if they are saving any spots. Some of us that have been going for years sometimes try and park in the same spot as the previous year. ;D ;D But it's all very casual, we don't stand on ceremony. We are a fun crowd and have a lot of fun and laughs. So bring your sense of humour and you will fit in well ;D ;D Try and bring an extra electric lead and or power boards - as we have to piggy back off other vans or sometimes stretch a long way to the power. If you are bringing kids with you, then remember to bring a small present from Santa. Also bring a long an item each (or more if you want), to put on Ilse's Giveaway table. It's basically a chance to bring along anything (preferably with a Retro / Vintage / Caravan / Garage theme) that can be put on the table. We all get turns in picking from the table and taking something home to replace what you bought. A bit like recycling or getting things from charity shops but you don't need to spend any money. ;D ;D Regards Di

I for one am very glad that Banno offered to organise it last year (with Bob's help) and this year when no one else was prepared to do it. As you know everyone that was at the last 2 events were asked to volunteer to be the organiser but no one spoke up. So no doubt we would have all missed out on a great weekend away. Anyway only another few weeks to go, til we break out the sherry again !!!!! ;D ;D See you soon Luv Di

Hi All, This is not really directly caravan related, but i'm sure you can live with it Most of you would realise that we raise funds at certain caravan events throughout the year for various charities. Well at Canungra we normally raise funds for the McGrath Foundation. Paul and I recently purchased a "Job Lot" of costume jewellery. We will be bringing all the items to Canungra to sell. The money raised will be given to the McGrath Foundation. Some of the items will make great Christmas presents. All going very cheap at either $1 or $2 each. There are necklaces, earrings, broaches, braclets & rings. I will set everything up on a table outside our van and just have a honesty box. Luv Di xx

Hi Guys and Gals
I am a newbie sort of and met a lot of you down at Cabarita several weeks back. Anyway I am the guy that brings the avocados to share around so today and tomorrow I will be climbing the trees and picking a heap of natural Avo's free from spray and poisens and I will have them at the front of my red and white Crusader with a donation honesty box so we can donate the money to the charity that you guys normally give to, so bring your loose change with you.
Looking forward to catching up again and everyone drive safe.
Lee
