Just thought I would show you some
pictures of our sunliner caravan when
we brought it home about a year ago.
We had to strip the interior because
it stunk and the cupboards had been
cut in half to make into two singles.
It had broken and sun damaged
windows.


I made new curved windows out of
quarter inch lexsan and fitted new
rubbers, I then re built kitchen
cupboards and dining chairs and table
and re built the wardrobe from bits
left over from kitchen cupboards. I
then modified a double futon lounge/bed
to fit in the rear of the caravan. Then
removed all the paint from the outside
and inside of the caravan and re
painted the caravan in white with
maroon fittings and curtains to
match our car, a 1929 Plymoth
(motor a 360 chrysler V8).
I have since lowered the caravan
3 and half inches since these photos
were taken, I will update the photos
and post them on the forum soon.
Not sure of the year of my caravan
but the chassis number is 0110, If
anyone has any idea could they let
me know? any info would be greatly
appreciated.

Hi Tucki, Your van to me appears to be about 1965-66. As you will hear from other sunliner owners, no 2 were built the same. Yours is the second shape of bodies produced, & is to only one of its age I've seen with the fibreglass internal linings the same as mine. Your model ( or at least all of the ones I've seen) had a vinyl interior headling normally. You've done a great job on it. If you send a message to me with your adress & maybe a fax number, I'll send you copies of some Sunliner Info I have been given by other Forum members. All we need now is a Sunliner Register. My Uncle had a 29 Chrysler in black when I was a kid. I can still see it in my mind. Why dont you put a bit about it on the forum. I see your van was at Wills. He doesnt contribute much on the forum these days, nice to see he still is alive. Jailbarjuice

I certainly am still here seeing we cant go to Europe because of the car accident Physio and all that

Lyn and I decided to do up the Kitchen Laundry and the office the last six weeks have been Kaos like you would never believe
so I wont go anywhere near there because you just would not believe the crap we have had to go through and we are actually paying for these extensions with real money

but in around 1 week

but I'm saving my dollars for when someone wants to sell me an Olympic or a Sun liner

Tucky, Your chassis number does not compute .. can you make that 0 at the front into a 6 then you will have a 1961 10th month production van.......which those windows tend to indicate ( they were an early type)
Which rubbers did you use to put your new windows in with, it looks like you have a chrome moulding in that new rubber!

I can't give you details on rubber but I bought it from industrial rubber, it's the type used on old car windscreens with plastic chrome insert. I only used it on rear windows (as fire escape) but found it difficult to fit in tight corners so I glued the front windows in and used stick on chrome strip. The curved windows I shaped by heating over gas barbie. Took a long time to get shape right. Chassis no is definately 0110?.

Watch that Lexen with fast trucks going in the opposite direction. A member of our club has the same windows as yours and a truck 'popped' his. Lexen as you know is very flexible, and if you used the same thickness( thinness!) as his, this is a possibility

Chopped up original sink to fit
into new bench top and 80 litre
tank underneath, I also fitted
a cover to the draw bar to hide
small generator, also fitted a
spare wheel carrier to draw bar.
Also lowered caravan 3 and a
half inches to suit my streetrod.
I finished these last few things
to go on our springtime run.
(Not finished but almost finished,
there never finished.)

Van and rod look great together. Lowering the van certainly makes it easier to get in and out of. and with a lower centre of gravity they probably tow a lot better.

Give yourself a pat on the back. You have done a great job. I think half the fun of owning these old vans is in carrying out the restoration yourself and adding your own personal touch to the design. No one should ever feel guilty about rearranging the interiors because you could order the van new with what ever interior layout you wanted.

I know i rip off sunliners a fair bit on this list, but i have got to admit they do scrub up allright.

Wooooaaaaaahhhhh up the rest of ya's. I am not going soft here.
Just remember - Bondies ( ply vans) rool - OK!!!
