Hi bigkel The springs have most likely rusted and the leaves are stuck together they may free up after a few ks or they could be sagged .Try letting the air out of the tyres this may give you enough room to get the wheel out or try a small jack between the spring and the chassis put a block of wood along chassis so as not to damage it and do not use to much pressure ray

Thanks for that ,, the wheels are 16 inch , letting down the tyre will not help at this stage as the wheel rim will not make it past the brake drum ,, van has been towed recently and springs are not locked up . , jacking the springs down sounds like a good idea ,, thanks

our toaster 16-2 has 16" 6 stud chev wheels, if i jack up the chassis, not the axle, pull the bottom of the wheel out first the can be removed ok.

Brakes are both vacume and hydraulic ? have not worked out how or why yet , ,, i did jack up van by chassis , no go , .. this van was towed by a small car in the 60,s ,it must have not been able to take the weight on the tow bar , so they used a tow dolly . cheers kel.
