My middle son Chris & I fabricated & welded a new "clamp" to hold my cute little 4kg gas bottle to the front of my Gypsy caravan before I went away earlier this month for a week of caravanning by the beaches of the NSW mid coast.
One night at Port Macquarie to visit my mother-in-law, 2 nights at Forster to check out the van park for our Xmas in July event, then four nights at Stockton Beach near Newcastle including a trip to the infamous Reddo Shed of Invention to see his Supalite (I'm restoring a 1959) and his Panno (I have a Ute).
I didn't want to go back to work Monday ;D

Hi Aquamum.. Damn...... I could have given you a "proper" ( not saying there is anything wrong with the one you guys made) Gas bottle mount if I knew ya needed one. I sold it at Gosford swap last weekend for $5, Good idea fitting a small gas bottle on the drawbar... saves carrying a 10KG bottle around with the extra weight . Down side is... ya never know when you are going to run out of gas. That's why you see modern vans with 2 small bottles mounted up front. one runs out ya just flick the 2 way valve to the other bottle .. then get the empty one refilled ASAP. If a big bottle runs out .. . well then .. your buggered until you go fill it up. Now go and clean up those welds and do as Ray has already suggested. Cheers Reddo

Sorry everyone ~ That’s a “before I cleaned it up” photo . Roehm3108 - I have cleaned up my son’s welding & painted all the exposed bits ;D I have installed one of the safety gauges that also tells me how much gas is left. Reddo – I still have the original 5kg bottle that was last “checked” back when the Partridge Family was on primetime TV & I have an ice chest..... my little stove doesn’t use a lot of gas so I should be okay Gypsy 10 – no that was my youngest – the carpenter – the welder is my middle son – my eldest is in air conditioning/refrigeration – I haven’t found a use for him yet LOL a bent axle is not good – as mentioned above by Gypsy came with a 5 kg bottle that I still have if you need a photo.

Hiya, a bent axle isn't necessarily a big drama , find a truck axle alignment business and have them straighten it or at least view it to see if it's repairable before you pronounce it dead ;D. cheers, Col.

Any 'good' engineering works can do your bent axle. I don't recommend one in Alice Springs. They put it on crooked & cooked the wiring. By the time we figured the crooked bit out we were 2 hours North. A really good mob in Katherine (recommended around a communal campfire) did a super job & we made it the rest of the way no dramas. Everything is fixable

Thanks for the info SGTL & kaybee will look into that after I take the axle off this weekend. Might even scrape some old paint off with the help of the beloved. But this Sydney rain is not helping.

I don't know either Maree, are there any markings on the bottles beside the name?
