Hi, We have owned this van for about 5 years. It was in good nick when purchased , just needed a clean and a coat of paint. It is used for staff and overflow accommodation at our backpacker hostel. Any info on its history would be appreciated. Glenn

Check on the chasis, about 8" to a foot back from the drawbar for a number. You will probably have to sand back to baremetal. The numbers should read YYMM then a separation mark followed by another number, which is a production number. Havn't figured out if this is for the year or total as of yet as there are not enough figures to give an indication. I figure your van is about 1964 upwards because of the "C" section chasis. I recall seeing this van and directing a friend to it a couple of years ago (remember an old chap, Bill, from Newcastle in a Mercedes). Is it still for sale???

AAAAhhhh Sunliners Why do i get this vision of a "houseboat on the river" every time i see one. must have something to do with fibreglass and the shape. Do they float? anyone want to volunteer slipping one in at a boat ramp to see what happens ;D Seriuosly though Glenn the van looks very tidy and sunliners have a style all there own. very nice. HI ALL
I can't speak for Sunliners but the following is a true story about another fibreglass vans which from memory were called Chesneys.
My father used to sell vans in Perth and he won the dealership for said vans. As a publicity stunt to demonstrate how dustproof these vans were he decided to tow one down the Swan River. So he taped up the door and hooked it to the back of my uncles speedboat. The boat took off and the van floated beautifully along behind it. All went well until a passing boat made a wake. The attachment between the boat and the van broke and the towbar of the van ripped the outboard motor off the boat and down went the boat. We all piled on top of the van, about 6 of us. It was a bit wobbly but didn't leak a bit.
I cannot remember what happened next to well, but we were eventually rescued and boat, van, dads, and kids all made it back to shore safely. The mums were mad, but that's their job. We all thought it was a hoot, being about 12 - 15 years of age at the time.
Dad got into a but of trouble with the cops but figured the fine was a small price to pay for the publicity the whole affair aroused. He had gotten the idea from a car dealer who a few years earlier had taped up the doors of a VW bug, attached snorkels to the intake and exhaust and drove is down the river. He got into trouble too.

I know Sunliners have a special style of their own.....and they should float if you tape up the bottom of the door....but we will never know, with any of my vans anyhow.....and besides that I have a boat parked behind the Sunliner!! I know they have floated an Olympic!!!

;D Hello all, yep its me - the missing chevy girl What a gorgeous sunliner.... Yet again not one the same... frustrating eh??? humpty how many do you have??? I want to start a collection of vans but Darren is being a handbrake... plus we are at the upholstery stage in the hotrod so NO money is to be spent elsewhere, including food... More importantly however is the conversion to auto for the chev, and the towbar comes soon, so then i will just leave him and the kids at home....!!! he'd just love that eh. Happy vanning Deb

Pleased to be of some assistance to you Dennis. Did you mention this site to him? I haven't yet. I will probably see him on the 21st for our club anniversary dinner.
