G'day shesgotthelook, You've reminded me..... I did start a thread about Caravan upholstery- an aid to dating ? back in 2009 but it sort of went nowhere because it isn't in the DHL index... or maybe people don't take photos of their old upholstery before they chuck it... or maybe they thought it was a dumb idea Anyway.... It's not along the lines of what you're suggesting, new upholstery. Mostly folk show their new upholstery in their members photo album, although a thread devoted to the subject could be a good idea because it could lead to discussion about sourcing material, cost, etc. etc. along the lines of how this threadwas going in 2011. It would have to be made a STICKY THREAD in the technical section I reckon, so why don't you move this post of your's there and...... away we go I like your underside fabric too, what's it called, I see it's used on the curtains, so does it come in different weights/gauges/thicknesses or what ever you call it Cobber.................... Hello

Fabric from Spotlight, vinyl & piping from Foamland Hobart. Upholsterer said the quality of both was poor & stretchy. I guess he's right but how much do you spend? When the cushions become more expensive than the van

Well. on with the next project. One seat/mattress is particularly damaged. Anybody know where I can find material like this? Uploaded with ImageShack.usUploaded with ImageShack.us

This looks great, I am yet to get to this stage. You showing me this has helped me know what to source. I don't have any cushions/fabric / upholstery in my van to take old and new shots. thanks for posting. ;D

Hi Shesgotthelook
My wife also obtained fabric at Spotlight for our seat cushions and we got the same response from upholserer. However, he suggested he glue thin foam 2-3mm to the underside of the fabric to give it 'body'. For the foam we purchased a double bed foam mattress, 150mm thick which had a good density, $109. The upholsterer cut the foam to the required sizes.
The end result was better than we expected. The density worked out just right in that you don't feel you are going to go right through them when you sit on them.

Hi Col, I had a sample of barkcloth from America (for curtains) & upholsterer said something about he could use that & back it, similar to what you are saying I believe. Still, I'd prefer to get a material as close as possible to the original but I don't like my chances. I have bought this so hopefully it will match!
