On Melbourne Cup day last year, I was driving back from South Australia, when on the western side of Horsham, I spotted an English Caravan on the back of a car carrier. I passed it and then stopped at a servo in Horsham, raced out and managed to take a picture of it. Later, as luck would have it, I again caught up with the carrier as he had pulled over on the side of the road. took more pics and told him that I felt the caravan wasn't secured very well and was starting to blow apart (he had picked it up in the Adelaide Hills and was heading for Sydney). It was chained to the base of the trailer and then had one strap across the front. No tarps or longitudinal strapping.
Needless to say, it landed in Sydney in an even worse condition and is now subject of a damages claim by the new owner against the carrier. The photos I took will hopefully assist in supporting the new owner's claim, as the condition of the van when it arrived in Sydney was certainly worse than when I saw it on the highway (the new owner sent me her pics in Sydney).
I think this is a timely warning to make sure that if you are having a van transported by a carrier, that you get the seller to take pics of all sides of the van before it leaves, to document its condition visually. Quite often members buy vans pretty much "sight unseen" and cannot prove that poor transporting/wrapping/strapping has contributed to damaging the van even further than it may have been when purchased. Pics on ebay, gumtree et al don't always give the full story of a van's condition, nor do the ad pics always reflect what yo are really buying.
Remember, it's always a case of "buyer beware"!
