G'day folks, Fantastic web site full of some very inspirational stuff indeed! I am looking at buying what is advertised as a 1965 Rowvan and I am looking for a fellow member near Lonsdale in SA that could have a look at the van for me before I do the deal. I would be willing to pay for their time and travel and would much prefer a vintage caravan enthusiast to give me their opinion than a caravan dealer. I am based in Cairns and want the van as a gift for the missus (no I'm not giving her a hint haha!) so she can go for holidays down the beach while I am away at sea. Alternatively does anyone have a recommendation of a company to have a look at the van for me? Also looking for a recommendation of a transport company to get this little gem up to Cairns www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/lonsdale/caravan/rowvan-caravan/1008398942My email is solwarra@yahoo.com.au hope to hear some suggestions soon, cheers Jim

You may wish to have a re think , i would think that it would cost around $2000 for transport from SA to Cairns . 2 years ago i got a quote $2000 from Melb to Cairns ( i live in Cairns ) . Good vans come up in south east Qld . you might have to look for a while . good luck which ever way you go . cheers Kel.

Thanks Kel, still waiting on a quote on the transport, been looking for a while now and this van has really grown on me. Have to agree with hildweller it is a cool looking van and should tow well behind the MGB or the missus PT

Here is a second opinion ,,, if you end up with this van in Cairns, and tow it with the MGB please let me know ,i would like to watch , i work for Queensland fire and rescue and have not seen a good crash for about 2 months ,, the van looks good in the photos . The PT cruiser would probably do the job but might be down on power into a head wind . Cheers kel .

Well the quotes are in for transport and they range from $4500 to $8000 to get it to Cairns so that blows the budget out the water and looks like I'll have to look closer to home as kel pointed out! Speaking of which do i sense a challenge for my MGB sebring V8 to pull his caravan and yank tank of his choice ? I'd be up for it but Campbell Newman might not like you firies sitting around waiting for a crash haha.

Solwarra pulling the van is only half the battle ... How much does your MGB weigh?

Last I heard was that a PT Cruiser 2.4 had a towing capacity of 1000lbs - about 450kg, according to manufacturer.
Can't find anything about MGB's of any sort, so max unbraked would be 1.5 times kerb weight for braked vans and 1 times kerb wieght unbraked. I do wonder if MG's were ever designed to tow anything apart from a box trailer. But that's just my opinion.

if i put a tow bar on this and had a speed contest , i am sure that could your MG a run for its money !!!!!!!!!! , (This weighs 1100 kg & has more power than you can use .) , but i don't think i want to do that race . If your MG weighs 900 kg , ideally your van would need to weigh as little as you can get . My sunliner weighs 600 kg empty ,i do not think that you will get a caravan that you can stand up in that weighs much less than that . if i am wrong someone will soon correct me . Towing safely is usually not a power thing it is very much a handling thing , as i experienced recently with my Ford f250 towing a very big car on a trailer , got a sway up ,i had to move spare parts from car to the f250 then it was good . cheers kel. you and your MG would be welcome at Cars and Coffee Westcourt plaza , 2nd sunday of month ,from 9am . (all cars and everyone welcome ) Pics on American Car club Cairns web site .

Its all good .
. quite often get new members on the website that know absolutely nothing about Vintage Caravaning . they simply like the look , they have got to start somewhere .most get a lot of good advice ,many of the full members seem to be on the forum just to help others .. cheers Kel.

Maybe try Roadmaster Caravans at Lonsdale SA, www.roadmastercaravans.com.au or email weepers@internode.on.net, they maybe able to help you. We recently had a car transported from Brisbane to Adelaide by Toll, I know Cairns is double the distance, but cost to us was under $500. Good luck. Cheers Christine Hunter

Oh and a quick explenation on the MG comment...years ago when I first saw this particular B it had a towbar fitted, never seen one before and my brother and I had a good laugh at what could they possibly be towing? As for the PT well My missus loves her PT and as I have often told her "it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding!" My Tow vehicle is a more sedate and reasonable 1/2 ton Dodge....
