Some might remember a while ago, I posted some photos of a V V owned by a friend on the Bellarine Peninsula, not far from Geelong. Over this very hot Labour Day weekend, I helped another friend remove the V V from its home for the past 20 odd years. The near side was hard up against a fence, and access to the A Frame was denied owing to a large tree which had grown in these 20 years. It took about 8 hours to get "her" out (by sliding her out sideways on 2 greased boards under each wheel) and ready to tow to her new home. The van (homemade?) is "Don" like in appearance and is believed to be 40's vintage or, even a tad earlier? The real mystery are the 16" wheel/rims, and we would love to know what they are from, and a guessimate as to their age ... can anyone please help? Max

Hi Max, I realise that Col has already replied and knowing that he is a very great font of information, perhaps I shouldn't say anything But it could be worthwhile measuring stud to stud (centre to centre) and if it measures 205mm then it could be an early VW commonly known as Wide 5 - meaning 5 stud, 205mm apart. Regards Di

Looking at them more closely if that hub cap has V8 on it, then they would be Ford and agree 1936 to 1939.

Photo of V8 Hubcap that was on the V V, is below ... as originally suggested, they are from a 1936 Ford. What a great Forum this is ... we will never die wondering what the answer is, to our questions!! So readily available ... thanks to all for your replies. Max

Regards Di ....guess you must think I'm a bit of a dill if I can't tell a '36 Ford wheel from a VW.....when I've got both on 2 different vans, plus had '36 Fords since the late 60's........have a look at the VW wheels on your Propert and then have a look at the Ford wheels in Max' pics.....nuthin' like 'em..... ....a '36 Ford wheel showing the one year only spoked brake drum...... ...same car finished ,later Ford wheels though..... ...these'll fit VW ,they're Prefect/Anglia wheels..... ...... same as used on this teardrop of ours.... ....the '36 wheels again, these are on our as yet unrestored '43 built lantern van which was originally towed by a 36 Ford.... .....and yes,Ford used the same wheel from 1936 to 1939 with different wheelcaps ,but since the pics show a matching set of wheels, caps and the unique '36 brake drum ,you'd have to assume they are all '36 Ford parts. For the record,Ford also used these same pattern wheels on their 3/4ton pickups until 1947 and again on the Ford Pilots ,but all with different hubcaps.
