Talking amps, volts & vintage- I bought a beautiful art deco toaster from America, but when plugged into my US/Aus adapter it super heats. Toast cooks in 5 seconds! Looking underneath, it says 125V, so unsuitable for our 240V. A sparky friend did say you can buy a conversion thingy but I think I'll leave this one as a decorative ornament ;D Anyway, just be aware if you are sourcing electrical goods from OS.

G'day reddo, I don't disagree with your logic, but it still leaves the issue of the actual caravan lead plugged into the van. Even the heaviest duty 15 amp caravan lead sold by HPM (a reputable brand) has only 1.5mm 2 of copper wire in each of the three cores (see here for the specifications). Are you aware of any caravan extension leads on the market that have copper wiring of 2.5mm 2 cable in them?? cheers, Al.

Apologies for waking a dormant thread The advice to get a 15 plug wired in at home is no doubt optimal, but… what if you also want the option of plugging in the van at other people's homes? And/or are renting? Is the AmpFibian an "inline device"? Do the sparkles contributing above (or others) believe it is less safe? My dad was an insurance liability assessor who instilled in me a healthy fear of electricity, and yet almost every long weekend and holidays of my childhood was spent with our Carapark plugged into my uncle's house! I'm having the retrospective horrors about the whole thing! Of course there were no AmpFibians in the 80s. And my uncle's no longer with us. But in the spirit of recapturing that flexibility (without the attendant death-defying risks!)… the AmpFibian looks like a good option? Unless there really is a significant difference in safety compared to a dedicated plug…

JAA I'm a sparky and the rules have changed a while ago. 15amp inlets are no longer compulsory on a movable premises ( caravan) you can get your sparky to change it over to a 10 amp on your van when you get electrical done! 10amps is more than ample for a domestic van ! The only difference is the earth pin size this will solve all your dramas otherwise get a small adaptor lead made No dramas!
