G'day Max , you have to wonder why people do that.....leave it outside under trees, near the beach with the salt air.....broken windows , joints and seams opening up to let even more weather damage occur.....but not for sale,no...rather wait until it's beyond saving before they realise they'll never ever make a start on it...... ......I'll never figure it out! ,cheers, Col.

Hi Winterwood,
Cruz is on the money. It is one of the vans built for Wayfarer by Globetrotter. This model dates from 1957/58.
Interestingly observation suggests that this model is now fairly rare in either Wayfarer or Globetrotter form. Globetrotter was before it's time with the bulge under the window as a design feature and I think may have been the first (one of the first?) manufacturer/s to incorporate it into its caravans (at least in Australia). This design element then came into its own in the 60's when it was adopted by quite a few manufacturers.
Nice find Winterwood!

Hope it's ok to put this here, but after Kaybees comment, it seemed appropriate, but please wipe it off if not. This belongs to the son of a mate of mine, same story, is going to restore it. I pressed him about selling, (not to me), said maybe there were some on the forum who would like it & could I list it here. It has been sitting in the paddock uncovered for at least 3 years, now behind the shed leaking, windows open, , it would be a good restorer at this stage, but can't see it being shedded yet....have encouraged him to tarp it at least! will be keeping my eye on it. rot Name Greythorne Special 15 ST

.....wow....he's trashed that one..... .....similar thing happened a few years ago to us, we were at a local clearing sale and thought we might save an old van that'd been undercover for probably more than 25 years.....we thought we had it for $500 and along came a bloke and upped the bid to something like $1500.....so he won it,then moved it around the corner and left it in his front yard in the weather......then after a while he moved it up the road a bit and left it in a horse paddock..... .....it's probably still there but now I make sure I don't look..... ....another time we were working on our little yellow van in the front yard and a lady walks in to ask if we restored caravans for other people ( said no...it was hard enough doing them for ourselves ;D).....so we asked what she had and it turned out to be a van we'd seen languishing for years in a front yard not far from us here in Croydon ....so we went around to have a bit of a closer look , and it's one of those old Roadhaven things ;D.....and it's been out there in the wet so long it's got an actual pool of water along one side of the inside of the van..... ......it was sodden ,and bits were starting to drop off it....and while we're looking at it trying to think of something polite to say ,the lady is telling us how dear it is to her and the family and that she'd really like to fix it up...... .....I'm sure people don't see the reality, they must see the memory of it when it was lovely.....or something..... ....sorry for the hijack Max......

I vote we form a 'Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Caravans'. Then you can prosecute owners for not taking proper care of their assets. If they don't take steps to prevent further deterioration, they can be forced to surrender their van with appropriate compensation What do you think

Better not venture over to NZ then...you would weep bucket loads...lost count of the vv's & some were just so cute in shape...fibbers/bondy's & alum's, all sorts languishing in paddocks, covered in vines etc. Obviously most are used as spare bedrooms etc. They were scattered around backyards/front yards etc screaming to be saved!!! Funny thing, they all sported satellite dishes but not much paint or TLC! I will post a few pic's soon for you to have a look when I have sorted through the photo's......J

I will just tag this on here, probably should be in 'whatever'. We have had a week in the van at Bright by the river & passed this several times, couldn't resist taking a photo. It has me wondering about the good intentions (gone wrong) of putting this van under cover, as it has been like this for some months, maybe the cover to go on the frame cost more than the van maybe................maybe.......... We had a thunderstorm whilst there, then good rain , the Ovens was running MUD, but the place cooled down nicely Apologies Max for hijacking your thread again ST
