I have a rough alum clad timber frame '67 Viscount Valiant for sale near Newcastle NSW. Would like to see it go to a good home as I have way too many projects. $100 or $50 less rims.

Hi there, I cannot for the life of me work this silly photobucket thingy out, if you send me an email to my addy of chubi82@skymesh.com.au I will gladly send you some pics. I literally saved it from a scrapdealer and it cost me $100 to do so being such a stylish little van, but I already have two van projects and so it must go and I just want my $100 back, or if you dont want the rims its yours for $50. its missing the stove, the door and one QualiCraft window frame otherwise its complete but tatty. Some bloke seen it the other day and wanted to buy it, I asked them were they into restoring old vans and they replied to my horror they only wanted it for a smash up derby! I refused immediately, I'd rather see it rot into the ground than have its destruction on my conscience.

Hi Chubi Its always difficult to let go of an old van that is teetering on the verge between being a viable resto ... or being bought by someone who wants to use it for .... gasp.. a demolition derby. I come across a lot of vans that are well and truely passed thier use by date. Although it would be nice to see all of these old vans go to good homes and be lovingly restored to thier former glory , The reality is there just isnt enough of us vintage van fruitcakes out there to save em all. Or... should i say ... not enough of us with enough room in our yards and the time and dollars to save em... Which leads us to the other alternative.... useable spare parts for other van projects that are in need of the bits that the old dead and dying vans can provide. I will probably get critised for suggesting this... but .. If you look at all other aspects of the older vehicle motoring world...( no.. hang on ... even modern cars and bikes ) Cars... trucks.. motorbikes...... They are all being repaired or restored using some second hand bits brought or salvaged from damaged /broken down stuff in spare parts/ wrecking yards so that they too can once again be put back on the road and enjoyed by their owners. So... i feel there is a need to at least sacrifice some of the old vans for spare parts... In the end ... the choice is that of the owner.... or... the new owner... once the van changes hands from one to the other. Call me the "grim reaper" if you wish. .... i could use a couple of qualcraft windows and some other odds and ends and depending on the vans location/towability and an inspection $100 is affordable .....But... if the van is to stay in one piece , then i respect your train of thought and decision to keep in tact.....I wish you luck with the sale. Regards Reddo

Reddo I understand totally where you are coming from, and I do acknowledge those that perform the unenviable task of stripping "history" to keep more going, Its just I dont want that on my conscience so to speak, so Id rather see it go to a home that is willing to restore it mate, u understand? PS need to get in touch with you RE my teardrop project

I know that there have been many vans in worse condition than this that have been brought back to llife, chubi, but I have to say it would not be an easy restoration. Often other factors such as the rarity of the van also come into play, and I personally think this van wouldn't be rare enough to warrant a virtually total rebuild. But that's my opinion Ray

Hi Chubi"You stated... Id rather see it go to a home that is willing to restore it mate, u understand? " Ok then .... you will need to be on your gaurd because it is just soooooooo easy for someone to say they are going to restore it ... hand over the dosh.. then tow it straight to a demo derby or... tow it down a backyard and take to it with an axe to salvage the bits they need..... u understand.... You also mention.... "PS need to get in touch with you RE my teardrop project" Might be best if you send me a pm by clicking on the blue "reddo"avatar... Then we can discuss TDs off the forum.... Not a good idea for you to come around and check out my TD..... i have a shed full of bits i have ratted from old vans too far gone to consider restoring. May be a bit traumatic for ya ;D Cheers mate Reddo

Hey Chubbi- I sent you a PM. This one is also very cute. Just new to the game....never restored before, so wouldn't mind starting with something less challenging eg superfical refurb so to speak. Have looked at some pics of time-lines and the real "restorers" really pull everything apart and start over. Not ready for anything loke that....What's this one like? Towable, water tight or not etc. Can you please PM me back.
