Have personally seen this caravan and yes it is old but it has a lot of problems as a lot of the plywood has delaminated and the paint hides a lot of the problems .It is very complete but personally i would use it only as templates to build a replica as it would be easier than to restore it, as the whole shell would need rebuilding. I know this will throw the cat amongst the pigeons, but that is how i see it.

Regards Gerald ....seems a bit harsh Gerald.....so it needs re-panelling , that ain't too hard.... and even if it turns out that it needs some frame repair , it's still do-able and shouldn't be committed to the scrap pile .....remember ,it's only a couple of Grand after all. Probably won't suit someone who expects "as new" for relatively small money ( and there does seem to be lot of that going on here lately ;D ).... but for anyone who doesn't mind pitching in and doing a resto, it looks like a great project. It doesn't seem any worse than the van Cobber rescued at Cowra , and most everyone there who voiced an opinion seemed pretty impressed with that one.... I suppose the other thing to consider is, not everybody wants a replica , a lot of folks place great importance on originality and would rather repair and restore , even if it is quicker to do a replica.....regards, Col.

Ok maybe i'am a bit harsh on my judgment and probably looking at it in a different angle as others as it would be less work for me to build a new new one than repair what is there , but not everyone has the resources that i have. Regards Gerald

Yes I'm inclined to go with Col on this one Gerald. I like to think this hobby is about restoring and preserving old caravans... not building new ones, even if they are replicas. Just have a look at what kfisher is doing with that van of his.... and he's a self confessed IT geek.. I had a bloke wanted to come to my house and take photos and measurements of Ol' 36 so he could build “a replica” ...........................................................I think he got the message Cobber

I love that you guys are so dedicated to preservation - I feel the same way about houses and furniture, and don't mind how much work is involved when a piece (or a house) is, at the very least, about 80% salvagable. just out of sheer idle curiosity, though, where do you van restorers draw the line between restoration and replication? have seen many pics here of vans stripped of practically everything but their chassis, yet these projects are referred to as restorations. curious. in other quarters that would be a replication - or am I missing something? I often do cheers Izzy
