Hi. Love your van. We have just purchased our van and don't even know what the make is or the year it was made. We are looking forward to the renovating and have already decided on the colour scheme. If anyone knows we think it is a panorama skyline deluxe or a franklin.

G'day michellebell, and welcome to the forum! ;D
It's a bit hard to tell anything much about your van from your photo. If you can post another couple of photos showing the side-on appearance, and the front appearance, that might help.
Also, have a look on the front drawbar around where the jockey wheel clamp is, and see if there is a chassis number welded there. Could be a letter and some numbers, or could be just numbers. Let us know what's there.
My rough guess at the moment is that your van is a 1964 model, based on the wide painted stripe along the side.
cheers, Al.

michellebelle, the cabin of your van looks very similar in appearance to a Franklin "Premier" model from the 1963 or 1964 period. However, the van doesn't seem to have some of the "signature" features that Franklins had from that time period: no forward sloping wheel arch; no shelf above the sink with a single support. The kitchen cupboard door facings in your van have a square edge on them, whereas Franklin cupboard doors have rounded edges. We recently had a member give us some detailed information about the Panorama brand. If you click on this link, it will take you to the Franklin history thread in the DHL section. Scroll down and start reading from Reply #63. It's possible your van might have been made by Huntsman caravans. There is also a thread in the DHL section relating to the Huntsmans that's worth reading. You can also compare your van with a Franklin Premier (badged as a 'Wanda' brand) by clicking on this link. I would think if your van was a Franklin, then you would definitely be able to find a Franklin chassis number welded on the top of the drawbar arm, just beside the jockey wheel. If there's nothing there, I'd be looking for another brand to attach to your van, and maybe Panorama is the right one. cheers, Al.

I'm with you Al,its not a Franklin, wrong shape, windows too high, wheelarchs wrong, not a Franklin sink or cupboard doors. Michell,Panorama skyline executives were just a label a dealer in Melbourne put on EVERY van that passed through his gates! I would guess your van is a home made job, made on the same lines as a Franklin. Cheers hughdeani

hello. I can see on the old rego sticker what I think is H MADE so it could be home made. Did people really make vans themselves and copy other brands? That would account for no chassis no. Thanks Guys

Hi Michellebell, I think Hughdeani is right when he says that the sticker on the rear says 'Styleline Executive Deluxe', which possibly means that the top part of the sticker which is no longer there said 'Doug Thorley'. As Hughdeani said, Doug Thorley was a caravan dealer in Melbourne who put his sticker on every van he sold, irrespective of who built it. More info in the Down History Lane section here. However, while Franklin1 and Hughdeani think that the van might be home built, my hunch is that it isn't. While quite a few amateurs built themselves vans in the era of bondwood and masonite (ie pre-1960), and publishers sold whole sets of plans for such vans in that era, building an aluminium van, particularly with the rounded bulkhead over the front windows that yours has, is a whole other game. I haven't seen much evidence of home built aluminium vans from the 60's, hence my guess is that your van is built by a van manufacturer, but we just haven't worked out who yet! You have commented that the rego sticker says 'H Made', but that is not necessarily conclusive. Sometimes when a van is re-registered and no-one knows the manufacturer (or the manufacturer is known but the registration authorities have never heard of them, as happened with JBJ's Deejay) the clerk behind the counter will solve the problem by listing the van as 'H Made'. Regarding the lack of a serial number on the A-frame, not all manufacturers (especially small ones) put a serial number on their vans, and serial numbers or VIN numbers only become compulsory relatively late in the piece. So again the lack of a serial number may indicate something or it may not. Having said all that Hughdeani has seen more vans than I've had hot dinners, and Franklin1 has a very impressive knowledge of the aluminium vans of the 60's and 70's, so I wouldn't stake my house on them being wrong! Now that I've muddied the waters, I'll go away! ;D ;D ;D Don Ricardo
