Just a couple of photos of Driftwood centre stage in the Sheep and Wool Pavilion at the Sydney Royal Easter show, she'll be there until the end of the show, 3rd March. I'll post more and tell the whole story when I update Driftwoods thread in "Members photo Album"...... later. The next photo was taken in February at the Nundle woollen Mill, who donated the 1100 balls of wool, showing some of the knitters and volunteers involved in fitting the jumper to poor old Driftwood. It's been a long involved but interesting exercise Cobber.

G'day Brian, No mate...... More like they want to keep the caravan There was a delay in opening the pavilion and one of the volunteer security blokes was telling me he was surprised at the number of people who told him they had especially come to see the wool bombed vintage caravan. There are a few more photos HERE and hereCobber.

Wow! That is totally amazing. What a lovely job the knitters did. I can really see why your van is in the limelight Cobber-it really is just so delightful. I think your van has become the ambassador for vintage vans. Tinstuff.

Mr and Mrs Cobber - Flock and Awe! I greatly admire the cable knit cozy for your van - do you get to keep it when its all over? Maybe it is overkill though - surely a bar heater would do well enough for Xmas in July. And really, it's like you always say - acrylic not oil (lanolin) for outside coverage! Very nifty - and well done to you for keeping it all under "wraps" for the launch! Seeshell

OK you Driftwood admirers, but you have to remember Driftwood couldn't have done it without ME, she's got the looks but so have many other vans on this forum, but I have the inclination and the time to pander to her vanity It's ME who spruiks her virtues, it's ME who takes her to these gigs, it's ME who stands around while she poses for the photos....nobody notices ME , it's ME who drags her home and tells her how loverly she was, it's ME who cleans her up ready for for the next gig, She's not easy to live with I can tell you We've been asked to display her at two other events in her jumper, we won't be doing it... I've had a gut full of her Cobber.

Hey Cobber,
Like all people/things that are dependent on you, you have to stick with it & give all the support you can.
So you know deep down you will do everything you need to.
At least you know that the reason your van never thanks you is that it cannot talk, not like the human variety that you expect some thanks from occasionly.
Chin up, & make the most of the fun.

Aw.... thank you folks for your valuable counsel in reply to my outburst in reply # 56. Your right Den, she is my responsibility When I found her in 1993 she was not beautiful, but I could see she had good bones and great potential so I took her on and we've been together now for twenty wonderful years, I should have named her "Elisa".... because I've had to do little to her over the years. The Easter show is now over Fair to say it was all about the promotion of the Australian Wool industry, not vintage caravans, but there has been some spin off There are some good photos HERE And we even got time on ABC " Country Hour "It's been fun... Cobber.

Hey Cobber In the link you gave, it says the Woolen Mill would like the van full time. Maybe you could give them the one Geoff & Jude referred to as "free to good home" in another post. You could just tidy it up a bit here & there. ST

G'day Cobber, Some great photos of Driftwood being dressed in her Easter finery. Glad to hear that you resisted the (no doubt) humungus price you were offered by the Nundle crowd to give her her own catwalk. Jennifer Hawkins and Kate Moss eat your hearts out! ;D ;D ;D By the way, I think it's high time you changed the subject of this thread from 'Cobber cufflinks?' to Driftwood's celebrity album. And yes, I did note your dummy spit about how YOU should be the centre of attention because YOU are Driftwood's personal assistant. But the way I look at it is that you get your cut from her appearance fees as her 'agent'. And let's face it, if she didn't exist your name wouldn't be mentioned in every second newspaper and magazine I read. So just be glad you can hang on to her coat tails...errr...the train of her woollen dress! Don Ricardo

ST, can I sub-contract you to knock something up for them using free to a good homes chassis ? ;)Cobber. I have 2 spare chassis sitting in the Garden of all places, ;D ;D I would put a photo or 2 on showing them amongst the shrubs, but don't want to mess up this interesting thread. I realize the "free to good home" van is way beyond reasonable repair, & it doesn't hurt for all to see how quickly the elements can destroy the bondy's. ST

Don R we have to remember this thread was started by Al franklin 1 ..... Bet he's hitting himself on the back of the head now aye ? ;D So I can't change it's name. .....and let me tell you, miss Driftwood is a bit rough around the edges, like some of those catwalk celebs.....plenty of wannabe celebrities out there, but not many great agents ST..... as dusty has said you wouldn't know what is under the jumper, for the last couple of days they even covered her wheels ..... would have covered the "A" frame too only they forgot to knit it so........ any sort of mock up will do the trick as long as it's the right shape 'n size........ and I wouldn't worry too much about messing up this very interesting thread (that Al started) Photo of covered wheels. ( I volunteered to be the young ladies agent too ) Cobber.
