Just imagine how hard it is for me to resist all this merchandise on offer ..... an FJ in front of the van and I would have been a goner for certain sure..... the necklace is looking pretty good at the moment though..... she tells me Cobber.

These images drawn to my attention of what looks a little bit like Driftwood's image This is a greeting card produced in Sydney Another greeting card.... I think it is painted fabric glued to the card ? Made in the UK. An Christmas card made by a lady in Lismore. Sometimes unauthorised modifications are made. Available from Letterpress Vintage Caravan Kraft And those letterpress people have a few new cards on offer, just click on the hyperlink above And this one is a small painting 16 x 21 cm made in Spain. And this ceramic model discovered by Don R from fairlie Kingston CeramicsDon't blame me....... Not my fault......I can't help it...... wish they would all give me free samples Cobber.

That Atog .....is a very interesting question. What does the Southern Cross look like in the Northern Hemisphere .... Spain in this example Did the artist insert her interpretation of what the Southern Cross looks like from her perspective Did she assume I got it all wrong Was she trying to give Driftwood a Northern Hemisphere identity to make a quick sale I bet somebody on the forum knows the answer to some of these remotely vintage caravan related questions Cobber.

Hi Cobber, I can answer one of your questions... The Southern Cross can be seen in the northern hemisphere in May & June and will appear to be upside down, but it can only be seen below 30 degrees latitude. Spain is around 40 degrees, so your artist has possibly never seen the Southern Cross, unless she's done a bit of travelling, which may be true of course... Maybe she was the lovely Spanish lass who cooed over Driftwood and took your photo when you were camped beside the beach on one of your outings. That fence looks familiar, and that is you and Mrs Cobber in the picture isn't it? (Sorry I see Seeshell has already pulled that one!) Don Ricardo

seeshell and Don R Thank you Don R for an explanation as to why the Souther Cross is reversed in what I suspect is a Spanish lass's interpretation of this article from long ago. And seeshell, that link is the answer to your question, and did you notice the blue "vintagecaravans.com" sticker in the side window I have been given a generous discount on the item so it is on it's way to Oz ..... can't help myself Cobber

Hi Cobber, Thought I'd seen that scene before! It's amazing that Driftwood has struck so many chords all around the world. It truly has become iconic (and that is intended as a serious observation). I wonder how many people who are now using its image have seen an actual photograph of it and/or know where it comes from? Clearly a lot do because they reference the photo from the Drive article. Maybe the government should appoint Driftwood as Australia's vintage caravan ambassador and it could tour the world promoting Australia's touring heritage. Obviously it would need a couple of people to accompany it as chaperones. I can think of a couple of likely candidates... Don Ricardo

G'day Don R... and the other bloke watching this thread Now..... I can understand somebody saying they have seen just about almost too much of this "Driftwood" stuff but................... I thought this one was worth bringing to your attention at this time of the year, and to support this particular charity. The card is distributed by "Henderson Greetings" who are donating $24,000 to the McGrath Foundation this Christmas .... I got my box from a local news agent. Hendersons also have a Birthday Greeting card with a slight similarity to Driftwood. You can find it in the "Female Birthday Card" section at newsagents who stock Henderson cards. Cobber.

hi cobber we're thinking of downsizing and selling the roadmaster. we know that "with fame comes fortune", but we're wondering whether you might be interested in selling driftwood for a suitable 5 figure amount. "she's" got to be the most famous individual caravan in the history of mankind (or personkind, for those politically correct but unusually sounding types). geoff 'n jude

Hi Cobber Would you mind sharing who you and Yvonne had as your retirement fund manager? He must have been a gun to set you up well enough to be able to afford to buy examples of the constant stream of Driftwood-inspired memorabilia! Cheers, Seeshell

Hi Cobber,
Great to see those cards, and the cause which they are being used to help. Must look out for some.
Must give you a funny feeling to be going about your business and coming face to face with a representation of your own van (again and again and again)? Maybe you're used to Driftwood being a celebrity by now, but I think I'd find it quite eerie.
By the way, are those your thongs in the pic?

Geoff 'n Jude........ selling the Ritz ..........That is interesting, and you're offering a five figure sum for old Driftwood.... $100.95 ...yeah right Seeshell, we haven't blown all the super yet although I did pass up on that ceramic Fairlie Kingston Driftwood Don R found....$5250 Whenever I see vintage caravan "stuff" ..... calendars, tea pots, calendars, salt 'n pepper shakers, calendars, stickers, calendars,.etc. etc. I tend to buy it if I can...... I figure if people don't buy the stuff THEY'LL STOP MAKING IT Don R ...you may remember Troppo cards first brought an image of "Driftwood in the outback" out in 2010, then as far as I know nothing in 2011. The first I knew of this "Driftwood by the sea side" card was when we received one in the mail a few days ago from a friend, it cost 'em $4.95. So I went looking and found the charity box..... 10 cards for $9.95. and it's not obvious in the photo but the Christmas tree and all the lights on this card have "glitter stuff" on them.... very attractive they are So that makes three different cards so far, it is a bit of a thrill............ aye? Cobber.

G'day Al & everybody else, Sorry it's raining today and I'm stuck inside but..... I do feel a heavy responsibility to keep this thread updated with products using Driftwoods image as they come to my attention. The Pirramimma winery in the McLaren Vale area of South Australia brought out a range of wines called "Grey Nomad"..... aimed at, Guess which market Each of the varieties has an image of Driftwood on the label (slightly modified) I got a box containing Grey Nomad Shiraz & Grey Nomad Vintage Brut.... also a hat with Driftwoods image on it, and a heap of bottle labels that I am using to make drink coasters, also cut out one of the van and stuck it on a wine glass....it's survived a few wash ups so far I like the words on the label at the back of each bottle Pirramimma winery is only about 44 K from Adelaide for those goings to the Grand Parade Then there is the linen tea towel hand screen printed by Vintage Coast Interiors here in Oz. Stayed tuned Cobber.

Driftwood will be at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in a knitted yarn bombed jumper From March 28th – April 3rd. to help promote “WOOLMARK” & Australian Wool – Nundle Woollen Mill – & Vintagecaravans.com This has been a very interesting exercise (not finished yet) and I have not been able to tell the story on the forum until “Country Style Magazine” had made the announcement in the current March issue of the magazine, there will be more in the May issue. Now come on fellas........... the wool isn't pink--- no pink flamingos---- just good old Aussie rural scenery...... Driftwood doesn't have to hang her head in shame............................. does she This photo is part of a loverly three page panoramic photo on the inside back cover of the Country Style Magazine. G'day Cobber, Looks like Country Style is really getting into the 'vintage van style' thing - which is great! It follows the rather nice story in the January edition of the young couple travelling to country markets in their VV. Must say I rather like Driftwood's new outfit - sort of like a caravan cosy. Makes a change from the knitted tea cosies like our grandmothers used to make and you see still in the craft shops! If it takes off, it might just save the wool industry. Do you reckon Reddo and his fellow travellers might be up for a caravan cosy on their Christmas in July jaunts? At least MR&MRSFJ55 wouldn't have to retreat from their teardrop to the local motel! ;D ;D ;D Don Ricardo

Thanks for the comments peoples..... all very 'spot on' Gordon got very close to the money That photo shoot was at the Sydney Polo Club grounds on the 19th January in order to meet the dead line for Country Style March edition...... problem was they didn't have a woollen jumper knitted. Forget the discussion about whether to use water based/oil based paint on your plywood restoration ...... photoshop is the way to go Below is the scene as my camera saw it, that 'sheep wrangler' was something else to watch I have to say But never fear, a woollen jumper has been knitted by eight very very dedicated lady knitters at Nundle, which I suppose I can't talk about (or show photos of) until Country Style have first bite of the cherry, won't be long now then I'll give you the facts Cobber.
