Good evening All Can anyone help me roughly date this fridge? I've been searching for fridge adverts and through Member Profiles trying to get a sense of dates, but without a lot of luck. I do think it would be from the 1950s - perhaps late? I did find Geoff's old post though about the supplier in Clayton South that does refurbish old fridges - gold. Cheers, Seeshell

This morning seeshell said "Can anyone help me roughly date this fridge?" Hmmmm Can't help with the date, but I do remember that it's very much like my parent's first fridge in the late 50's. Had an ice-fed fridge before that. That fridge looks to be in great nick - is it an open freezer, or is the door missing? Ray

Now that`s one ripper of a fridge Seeshell. And as F/f said: ["That fridge looks to be in great nick - is it an open freezer, or is the door missing"? - asks Roehm] - Reckon it`s a hinged clear plastic door. gordon

Hi All That's the beauty of the forum, isn't it? All that collective wisdom! Ray/GordonI also think it is from the late 50s, and Rattles says early 60s which is probably right - the later 60s models seem more boxy, with only a slight radius on the edge of the door. It does have a door on the freezer compartment: Clear plastic with an Astral marque just as Gordon has said. About the only thing that really does need replacing is the seal which is a bit perished. CobberIt currently does only run on gas; because I really feel uncomfortable with gas in the van, we've already removed all the plumbing for gas in the Blue Flyer. I'm going to see how I go getting it converted to electric only, as I believe others have done (see F/f's Roadhaven Fridge). As for where it came from - no great secret, I'm forever searching for the right old bits. The internet is your friend. Overall, I was happy with the price, and it turned out to be very local to us as well (15 minutes away). I'll part with it over my dead body - it's taken me nearly a year to find one. ;D Talk about hen's teeth! It's going into the Blue Flyer as the replacement for the old Electrolux that didn't work and couldn't be repaired. We've been using a modern bar fridge at present, which I don't really like, but has been very serviceable. RattlesThanks very much for posting the manual. Lovely to be able to look through it. Cheers, Seeshell

I personally prefer to go out with humans but hey, whatever takes your fancy. She might ask for expensive meals though?
