Well folks, did a 13 hour trip last Saturday to Geraldton, 430 kms north of Perth, then back to Beverley to pick up a 38 Buick. The 39 Chev has gone to a new owner in Muradup WA....... I had a fellow visit the Beverley shed in November last year for a looksee at the cars and caravans, and he wanted to buy the 39 Chev ...........told him it wasn't for sale, but he was one of these blokes that didn't take no for an answer ....... .........anyway, ....long story short, he hounded me for a while, then a few weeks ago a 38 Buick came up for sale in Geraldton. I have a preference for the 38 GM cars's over the 39, so got on the dog & bone to see if he still wanted the Chevy ......yep! .....cash is ready & waiting! So .......... now have a straight 8 Buick for a 30's tow car ........it's an ex Geraldton taxi that was rebuilt from a paddock wreck in the early 90's. The owners have pics of it running around Geraldton at the end of the war,.... unfortunately they wouldn't hand over the pics ...........at 5.2 metres, I wasn't too sure whether the old girl would fit on the V V truck ...........but no worries, it only had about a 10 foot overhang ;D left Perth at 6am Saturday, and got to Beverley about 9pm after stopping down the road in York for a coupla beers and a feed ..... should make a nice tow car for the 36 Paramount Mark

Jeez thats a nice car. Good pickup Mark. Is that a yank Buick body or local. Stretching the grey matter a little, and i seem to remember a 30's Buick 8 in Stanthorpe, it was on a farm of the Amiens road along with a very early Reo Speedwagon, which if memory serves me right was an early carrier truck on the Stanthorpe to Brisbane run back when it took the best part of a day instead of 2.5 hours. Anyway, back to the topic well done.

Hi Mark,
What a car. Much better than a 39 Chevy in my opinion, & I love 39 Chevys. I drove a Buick the same that a friend owned, when I was about 17. I can still remember how smooth it was, & it rode like a dream with the coil springs in the rear.
Hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I expect you will.

Hi Mark While my husband is more in favour of early 60s cars (like the Valiant S), my own preference is for late 30s and early 40s machines. I've been green with envy reading about your acquisition! A problem I would love to have: trade my '39 for a '38. Just look at the luxury appointments - that back seat is like a deco club chair. Talk about arriving in style. It's going to be the "bee's knees" behind the paramount. Are you going to give us all rides around the park at Cowra? Me first! One very GREEN Seeshell

thanks guys for your comments ..... mgandwartz says: Is that a yank Buick body or local........its a body by Holden build, so an Aussie Buick seeashell says: Are you going to give us all rides around the park at Cowra? Me first! ........seeshell, ...I won't have the Buick at Cowra unfortunately, but hopefully will have the FX ......I'll be cruisin' 'round the caravan park in the FX with me arm hangin' out the window pickin' up chicks, .....so,..... yep, you can be first ;D Mark

Great Aussie car Mark T and with the combination of the van it will be a real crowd stopper I'm sure With no Smilies for envy 'cool' will do. AND you will help lots of retirees recover some money from their Shell shares ;D mgandwartz might be interested to see the Fisher bodied US version , I think its the same model, I ran across in Detroit. A big difference in the rear end sheet metal. I doubt there would be many here unless a recent import. George
