G'day All, Took the trailer around the corner this morning to grab a Nite-n-day divan that had been put on the footpath. I'll see what I can salvage out of it to use in the current project... Had to then go another kilometre to our local Post Office to pick up a parcel. On the way back home I went past a pile of junk on the footpath outside a block of flats. Thought I might as well stop and have a look-see (...no point in taking a trailer home half-empty, eh?!! ) Result?... One large Globite suitcase... One Willow 'esky', with galvanised lining inside... One cane picnic-type basket... And the pick of the litter? One HMV Little Nipper radio ... Not a bad haul in less than an hour eh?! ;D ;D ;D cheers, Al.

Struth humpyboy, it's pretty scary walking around the insides of an old radio! However, in the interests of science, and to satisfy your curiousity (and mine, as it turns out... ), I have opened the back of the casing to see... 50 years of accumulated dust: Not wishing to burn my garage down with a radio fire, I got the cleaning brushes and the vacuum cleaner out... Once I was happy there was no dust that could catch alight, I put my fingers in my ears and plugged the radio in... Fiddled with the dial and got a couple of AM stations that made some sound... The tuner needs calibrating because it won't go all the way to the left... But yep, she's a goer! (last couple of photos are blurry because I had to turn the flash off to show the radio lights. Camera doesn't focus so well in low light.) cheers, Al.

G'day Al, That is a nice looking radio mate, even if it doesn't work........ but it does What model is it ........ have you done a google yet , just to see how much you saved by scrounging around other peoples junk....... Yvonne won't let me do that anymore if she's with me..... 'cause I don't find anything good.... just junk The Globite's not bad either, and the willow esky looks authentic, and the basket'll come in handy too. The nite-n-day's just going to take up space and get in the road Cobber.

Hi Franklin 1, shame you are a bit far away. My husband is a radio t.v technician, trained in the old school. Could have helped with repairs. Nice looking retro couch too. Cheers, Heather p.s could check era / date for you.

Very nice collection Franklin1. But why wreck a perfectly good 'click clack' sofa? Just get a bigger van! Gordon

G'day cobber, Can't find any model number stencilled on the chassis, like others on the internet have. The vintage radio websites say plastic cases came in in the 1960s. The knobs on mine (assuming they are original) look like they'd be one of the later designs. The newspaper archives show HMV was advertising a transistorised car radio for Holdens in 1963, but in 1967 a home stereo system for the loungeroom still had "5 valves". Got no idea when transistors made these valve mantel radios obsolete, but seems it was sometime near the end of the 1960s. I'd be guessing this Little Nipper was made sometime around the mid-1960s. Gordon, too late for the nite-n-day to be kept intact. It came with an "organ donors" card, so three or four other projects are now benefitting from the bits and pieces. cheers, Al.

G'day Al, mate, ....will you take 5 bucks for the lot ....thats not a bad profit hey ;D I'll be trucking a car to Sydney to pick up Janaway for the Cowra nats, and flying to Sydney via a Virgin. Problem with this arrangement is that the trucking companies don't allow any gear in the car, it has to be totally empty except spare wheel. So on arrive in Sydney, I'll have a car & caravan, and a bag of clothes, nothing else Now, if I do a deal with you, I'll have a boombox, a suitcase for me clothes, a picnic basket for me lunch, an esky for me beer, and seat for outside the caravan ........how good is that Mark ;D ;D ;D

No worries, Mark! I'll even throw in a free-standing privacy screen that we are going to make out of the five timber-louvred doors we scabbed off the same pile of junk... You'll be able to spend the week sprawled out on the lounge in a drunken state, yelling obscenities at reddo each time he passes, and generally leading the life of a demented vintage caravan collector. ...And no-one will be able to see that it's you!! ;D ;D cheers, Al.
