Recently had to visit Hughenden,North West Queensland. Spied this metal van in a backyard.Tracked down the guy who owns it. Turns out it is one of two Airstreams imported by the Yankee Company that han construction work with the formative stages of the Moonie gas and oil fields in S W QLD. It had a metal Airstream plate/plaque on th e side near the door with the number 374 stamped on it. The guy said that he had several people chasing him to buy it, but he was keeping it to pass on to his son as he had received it from his own dad .. He also reckons he knows where the second Airstream is located in QLD but wouldn't say. Have posted the pics to Humpty. I'll ask him to post them when he can. Cheers Sutcac.

Thought some may like to see this. This is what it would have looked like when new. The little ones like this one were called a "Bambie" Sorry, all my early Airstream photos are black and white

Hi JBJ & Hwyman I am with you on this subject. I know of at least 6 vintage bikes and cars including an A Model roadster , MG TC , A model tourer, 1928 chev tourer all sitting in barns ( well at least they are high and dry and the rats have something to feed on and nest in) that i have found while away on shooting trips in my younger days. All of them are still there due to the owners having .... as you say... "rose coloured glasses" ... I call it "thick heads". Someone fills their head full of sh#t and they think they have a pot of gold down the barn. Or ..." Me 'n' the son are gunna restore it"!!! . He is pushing 90 and the son is 75. Ummmm .... ::)You would think if they where gunna restore it they would have done it when thay could still hold a bloody spanner and see what they where doing Then there is the other types that are brought up on "never get rid of anything on the farm" bits might come in handy on the massey ferguson. There is three courses of action you can take when told "No ya cant have it" 1. Walk away 2: persist and keep going back there to pester them into selling and 3... (The most appealing after being told no ya cant have it.)..... STEAL IT I wouldnt mind having a go at building a replica of one of these yankee jobs. Hmmmm might tackle one after i finish the Teardrop in 2010. Seriously though ... vans like that Airstream should be salvaged at all costs. As Cobber says "rescue and restore" . The smaller Airstreams... ( bambies) would be Ok to tow behind most old cars... even 6 cylinders would probably do the job. Now if ya will excuse me... i have to repair a plank on my soap box.
