Yeah.. Your right Kaybee.... FE and FC.. and maybe similar on Cussos had Tilly stripe moulds the same shape... clean forgot about them. Ray... Brush the paint on .. then use a whatever length roller you feel comfortable with. !80 or 150mm long...X 40mm diameter( you dont need a large diameter roller) X 5mm mohair nap. Definitely an art i laying off with a brush using enamel . so use the brush to get an even coat and cut in around edges / corners then.. if your not happy that you have done a good enough job at getting all the brush strokes out ... go over it with a short nap roller I have made a mess of the doors trying to get an even finish with clear lacqer. will wait till they harden then sand with 240 freecut paper and have another go with brush and roller... best job would have been achieved with a spray gun but i cant remove the cupboard sliding doors and ... besides that i dont have the skills with a spray gun.. The van is a "Keeper".. at least for a few years. The next van i do up will be the one i go around Australia in ;D Thanks all for the comments... still plenty to do. Cheers reddo

Yo all.. Weather has been total poop here in Newy the past 24 hours.. So... i moved inside the van and just about finished off all i wanted to get done before the Tour/Coledale... Here is half a dozen or so shots of wherei am up to .. Still havent touched the ceiling... It is flat white water based and it is like chalk. Every time you close the hatch you leave finger marks. Will trackle the ceiling sometime when i am off over xmas. The view from the door...I removed the old 3 inch wide tin "skirting "and replaced it with some 12mm x80mm skirting boards. The tin was full of dents and deep scratches , so it was easier to replace with wood than try and bend up tin / galvo or aluminium to replace it. down the back sitting on the bed looking forward.. Hey Cobber .. there is the double hing out Beer Towel rail i mentioned on another thread last night... perhapswith a bit of imagination i could pretend its a Tea Towel Rail aye.. Sitting at the table looking down the back.. the kitchen area. No water tank yet so i stuck a place mate of my first towcar and van up in its place... Biggest issue i have with the layout is that there is bugger all bench space . so i have made an infill panel that sits over the sink and gives a flat bench space. Also bugger all clothes storage space apart from the wardrobe which has no full width shelves. just 5 or 6 narrow shelves up on side. OK for soxs and undies etc. There is a hole cut in the pelmet jus near the door . I reckon it is there to take a candle or insect coil.. So i stuck a small tin pie tray in it.. Here is a couple of piccies of the side stripe now that it has a border aqround it.. Will order a couple of 15"portawalls for those wheels this week. While Jeff had the brushes out last Monday i got him to bung this on the back.. At least people will know what they are passing when they see it wobbling along in front of em. Still gotta find a couple of small reflectors to cover up the holes where they had those órrible Narva tail/brake lights. Running out of days to work on the van. Would have liked to have put the annexe up this weekend... rain stopped mosyt outside activities.. Regards reddo

G'day Reddo,
The Supalite's looking schmick, although reading through the thread I see that 'Mick' has had nothing to do with it. It's all your own work with a little bit of help from your bro.
Regarding the lack of bench space, making a lid to go over the sink is a good solution. Looking back over your previous posts, I gather you have replaced the original sink. The photos seem to show that there was a small oval (round?) sink set into the bench above the cupboards. Optical illusion or have you put in a new sink top?

G'day reddo, It always impresses me how you put your absolute heart and soul into the restorations you do. I reckon if there was a ratings system for van restorers, like they have for fine dining restaurants, then you'd be a 3-hat restorer for sure, or I'd eat my err... hat. I think the paintwork and signwriting you put on your vans is simply amazing. Congratulations on a really fine effort. cheers, Al.

G'day Reddo, I like the light bulb behind the "Supalite" sign...have you got a low voltage one there too for when you're traveling along.....that would look ? Don't forget the smoke alarm and......... I'm not sure that fire extinguisher will pass muster but the Tea Towel Rail certainly will (depending how you screwed it on ) Looks good mate Cobber.

Hi Franklin1. Mate the restos arent anywhere near as good as the look in the photos.. i have said before that i use the term.."refurbished". Meaning things get cleaned up and a coat of fresh paint. Its also much easier to tidy up a van that is in good solid condition to start with , than it is to kick off with a real roughy and bring it up to scratch. I take my hat off to some of the restos i have seen come across my computer screen since i joined the forum back in september 2004. There is plenty of room in the vintage van world for 100% perfect resto... modified to personal taste... and old roughys that people just love to drag around the countyside enjoying what we all know is the perfect hobby/ pastime/lifestyle. Enough of the rant... Guess i am just trying to say.. "äll creatures great and small love em all ".. congrats to anyone that picks up a hammer and a tin of paint and has a go... its all good fun aye... Hey Cobber... The supalite sign has a 12V light behind it that use to be supplied via the towcar trailer plug connection which meant the car had to stay hooked up when camping overnight to supply the inside lighting. I have done away with that set up and have installed a battery under the right side seat. .. as most of us have done somewhere in the van.. Can have the light on when parked/camping without leaving the car attached. Having said that it would not take much to wire it in parallel with the front clearance/park lights...hmmmmmm.. might have a fiddle before the tour..... With the supalite tidy up coming to an end soon , i looked around the shed to see what i could throw some money at next........ didnt have to look too far.... Early BSA M21 600cc side valve single...... .. . This is another Boomerang. I sold it to a mate 4 years ago.. he was gunna work wanders on it. I found it in the corner of his shed the other day.. hadnt moved an inch since we unloaded it there.. A few beers and a few bucks later its back in my shed... Bloody things are a lot worse than caravans to do up... at least caravans dont have that great lump of cast iron to leak oil and blow up.... Regards Reddo

Hi All... Well.. just about reached the end of the resto journey on the Supalite. The whole time i have been on the scout for an original water tank. Tried ebay every few days.. found one that didnt suit ..... but Cruz grabbed it for one of her vans. So that worked out good for her. Nothing at swapmeets or the recycle shop... I have been looking out for an old wallmounted electric urn/hot water unit. We have em at work . Full of boiling water in the lunchroom. Just the shot. Not too big with a tap in the middle at the front. Was gunna take a shifter to work and snitch one but i would have caused a riot at smoko tomorrow morning when the boys go to make a cuppa It has come to crunch time for the water tank as i leave for the tour on friday. So..... Nothing left ta do but sit down with the " ëngineers"down the shed of invention and ... start inventating After much scribbling on the office whiteboard ( concrete floor) a plan was hatched. Off to Bunning i go.. up and down the aisles until i found what i was chasing. Back home .. a few measurements. A few bits of masonite. a few more bits of plywood... Hey... even water tanks can be made from plywood...... with a bit of cheating Found an old chrome water tank tap. 6"of 1/2"copper pipe . 2 gland nuts and 2 olives . bend to a right angle. Bit of sawing and hole cutting and she was ready for a test run in "Öld Blue" Sweet... couple of slide bolts ta hold it in place. and a hole in the top ta fill er up.. Spose ya startn ta wander how i made masonite and 5 ply hold water... Ok..... i cheated.... Thats a 10 litre $9.00 Bunning plastic water bottle down inside there I could have made it narrower by using a right angle pre soldered bend and soldering it to the 2 short bits of pipe . but i found a piece of pipe already bent to suit with the olives and gland nuts already fitted... I am happy with the width. it fits the opening well and the tap is over to one side of the sink. Water runs down into the sink good when the tap is full on. No splshing over the front of the sink/bowl. It will be out of the way while washing up etc. wont have to juggle the pots in under the tap. Happy with the size and fixing points i gave her a coat of paint the same colour as the sink...Eau - de-nil........ just cant get away from that colour it seems. Job done for less than $10.00 . All done .. ready for the tour and Coledale...... Hmmmmmmmmmmmm... ... wait a minute.... If the van didnt have a twater tank i wouldnt have to do any washing up... Better go and smash it off the wall before the hugs and kisses spots it. Cheers. Reddo in "The Shed of Invention"... patent pending .

Sooo,,,,, Here it ius... New years Eve... and what have i got ta show for a week off work..Been nowhere . Except down the shed of invention working on cars and caravans... First job was to fit the HR disc brakes.. booster and correct rear wheel cylinders and shoes to the FB van,, Things got in the way of the oxy while i was fitting them and the front coils lost 1 complete turn. Then the rear end got a pair of 2"lowering blocks... Moved on to Öld Blue"... Fitted the spats that JBJ sent me....Thanks mate.. will soak up a few suds at Cowra with ya...The milky bars are on me!!! sanded back the old cane rod that had been neglected on the side of Rosie for a few years..and made a couple of brackets to mount it on the van... Found a spot for "rosie" the alcoholic parrot.. Washed and repainted the ceiling .....flat white.. The van never had a fly screen on the roof vent.. had a few hooks outside on the roof around the opening .. looked as though it had some sort f stretch on thingo at some stage.... So... invented one... Up until now i have never tried the annexe on the van.. so that was todays job.. I would like to thank the yard supervisor for all her efforts. her input was invaluable... I was allowed 1 hour leave pass for a coupla beers at the pub yesterday,, got talking to a bloke about old bikes... ended up around at his house and came home with a 1970 Honda Minitrail 50cc in very good condition... looks like i have at least one resto to complete in 2012.. Have a great night guys.. Me nthe missus are having a quiet one at home... Regards Reddo

Hi Reddo, That's a wonderful annexe on the Supalite. The plain canvas walls, green canvas roof, wooden poles, lace up sides and the ropes (sisal or hemp??) are just so typical of the period. We had the original annexe for our van up to about 1993, when I chucked it, thinking "when on earth would I ever put that up instead of the new fancy one?". Ah, the things one regrets! You've mentioned having the Supalite annexe before, but to see some pics of it up is a real treat! Hope you'll bring it to Cowra? Don Ricardo
