Oh they will get used when the novelty wears off... perhaps. My experience when buying vintage is get stuff that is in top condition and look after it well. Those canisters still have wear and use marks but they have no cracks or bad damage. I reject your assessment of "no good, won't be used" Cobber. When did you last use that bottle of mortein? ;D
Have a great day.... Bill

SLOT HEADS ! (You're not trying to divert this thread away from the original intent...." 1950's Collectibles for your Vintage Caravan" are you kaybee .....or has that been done already ) Anyway.....I'm not going to fall for it, I ain't going to say anymore about... 'liking them rough and dirty and different colours' Cobber.

Not quite 1950's... more late 1960's but a cool bunch of fish nevertheless (IMO).

those fish wouldn't travel too well on the caravan walls ;D I am a tragic collector of many things & house is overflowing. Will have to curb my addiction to a level where things for the van can be easily stowed for travel. If i ever had to move house I would have a mental breakdown

Indeed, I curbed my collecting by buying/selling. Now I mourne all the cool stuff I sold. Made some nice pocket money though.
No, the fish don't travel with us.

I can’t remember who said that you should only have things that are either useful or beautiful. We enjoy using beautiful things & there’s not much in our house we don’t use at some time or another. So we’ll bring our Mahjong set to Cowra & if anyone wants a game one night, see us in the Overland! I think most people also like things that have sentimental value. I found this Bakelite box recently in the pantry. My mother had it when I was a kid in the 50’s. Getting freebies was just as big a deal then as now & obviously White Wings flour gave away these recipe cards with Handy Hints on the side, most likely in the flour. Perhaps she had to save enough White labels to get the Bakelite box to hold the cards. Any of you cooks out there like to try this vintage Mock Duck recipe on one of the cards? My mother also saved the ends from Lipton tea boxes & when she had enough labels we went to a huge warehouse down near Central Railway in Sydney & chose her prizes. I still have the orange bowl with big white spots from W. Germany that she & I got there when I was about 6. But there is one thing in our house we don’t use & it’s this glass. Rob’s father brought home 3 different glasses when he came home after WW2 & Rob & his 2 brothers got 1 each. Needless to say, it would be a shame to see the transfer disappear with being washed too much. I’ll leave it up to you Moderators to decide if it’s a clean enough glass for the Forum to look at. I’ve been too busy to clean it as I’ve been swotting up on reversing in tight places with a van. Sure beats getting those 4WD tractors in & out of tight spots, like I’ve been doing for the last 35 years. smiles ;D ;D

I am guessing that all of you collectors know this terrific shop. It is in Coolamon, shut when we were there, but a phone no. for owner who is "not far away". They sell online, too. Pricey, I think, but lovely stuff. (Gotta work out how to get two photos attached) Website is www.treatsandtreasures.com Cheers, franivy

Hi Good to see I'm not the only hoarder. I used to live in a 1930's house and I took it back. Bakelite handles and light switches, put the picture rails and fireplaces back and furnished it 1930's. How I miss that house I just loved it, lavender wax polishing the furniture while listening to Billie Holiday & Fats Waller. GREAT!! Yes the truth is out I'm a saddo. Check out my facebook www.facebook.com/Everythingvintage Hope you like it. Can never download to this site I always get file too big. Anyhow take care Sharon

G'day Sharon, They say confession is good for the soul.... do you feel better now? Regarding photo file sizes being too big.... up in the ":forum guidelines & helpful hints" board Geoff and Jude posted a tip about reducing the size of photos ....it's very good, I'm still using the VSO version, when I remember to use anything . Cobber.

G'day Cobber
Of course, but I have to confess that I am responsible for George Formby playing at Canugra last year, I gave a cd to Suzanne. Did you know he was the highest paid star in England in 1934 he was earning 100,000 pounds a year?
Can I just wish everyone a safe trip to the Caravan Nationals. Take plenty of photos so we can see what we are missing.
Sharon & Steve

Hi All Since we didn't go away to Cowra, and the weather didn't cooperate for painting, I did take some time to organise the cupboards and put a few canisters and kitchen things on display (modest compared to some!): Starting with the late 1940s to early 1950s - canisters and items are still bakelite: Mid 1950s - still bakelite: Late 1950s - early melamine/LDP: Cheers Seeshell

Hi All Here are a set of Cutco knives - with the bakelite wall hanger. The company is still in existence today, and if you have a set (even if they were nanna's) you can send them back to be repaired, linished, sharpened or replaced - for free. This set are from the late 1940s to early 1950s: Cheers Seeshell

Gotta love the paisley outfit. In my ebay seller days I aquired a full collection of woman's clothing... 1930's - 1950's and I just couldn't get any of it to sell so I quit it all for a few hundred bucks. It amounted to a large bedroom room full of clothing hanging on makeshift rods .... like a giant walk in robe). Now there is a huge market for vintage clothing... dammit.
and no I didn't wear any of it... none of it fitted me anyway. Actually one of the problems with buying and selling vintage clothing is most good vintage fashion items are in very small sizes and not befitting the modern woman.
