G'day Lilian,
Some great photos there. Especially the last one which looks as if it shows the vehicle, or the van, or both, in - how shall we say it - 'some distress'! I wonder what the story is behind that one. Whatever it is, it merited an 'x', I guess meaning 'x marks the spot' or something similar.
Thanks for posting the pics. These days people would say that you couldn't tackle those types of roads without a 4WD, but cars in the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's were actually pretty capable and happily(?) traveled over some pretty incredible roads.
Sportsman1 reminded us of that a year or so ago when he took his Vauxhall and teardrop up through the Centre, and back, even though people told him he couldn't!
Having said that, I read a newspaper article from the 30's which said that the roads through outback Queensland and the NT were littered with the remains of caravans that had disintegrated on some of the roads up there. Seeing some of the photos you posted, you can imagine why.

G'day Lilian, Thanks for sharing those photos, it reminds me of the way it was ..... young folk get it too easy these days if you ask me. I'm a bit cranky Don R didn't identify the caravans for us The one behind the ute I thought was a "Road Cruiser" ... then I thought it might be a "Paramount" .... then I thought it might be a "Furness"... then I thought "I give up" Cobber.
