Ummmmm..............
After much ....."Upping and downing"of the hydraulic jack with the fancy chrome bizzo on top i finally came to the conclusion that ..................................things just aint quite right with the gaps between the towbar and the bumper bar...
Set it up to suit the bumper bar hieght .. tailgate misses the bar... but towbar hangs too low,,
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Raise it so the towbar sits neat..
spare wheel door fouls on it.. bumper is too high .. tailgate hits bumper...
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
So... i ring the bloke i bought it off and in conversation he mention the back of his FJ ute never had a spare wheel door... just a roll pan...
again..
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Answer was simple.... cut it up and get my prioritys right.....
Yup... towbar first...
I sliced off the mounts on the chrome gizzmo that bolt to the rear of the spring hanger mounts...
Then made 2 plates and welded the mounting bolts to them ..
that way i can drop em inside the hanger plates so i didnt have to try and get a spocket or spanner down in there later on....
Measured and drilled the rear of the hanger plates to suit the mount plates....and then dropped em into place....
Measured and cut a 50 X 50 cross bar and tacked into place..
Then removed the whole show and dropped off at Stewie Campbells to be weld together properly...
There are a few things i dont fiddle with too much ..
One is brakes .. and the other is structural welding.. leave it to the pros....
Called in tsarvo and stewie had done his bit...
top side lookin down....
upside down view....
Dead set simple design when ya think about it... and doesnt hang out the back like dogs privates..
Just hope its solid enough to handle a van...
I will keep a close eye on the mount points .. if it looks like caving the bum of the spring hanger mounts in .. i will get plates welded up the sides of the mounts to the chassis rails higher up.!!
While all this has been happening i managed to put a bit of colour on the back and front of the car as well....
Black and yellow sorta suits a NSW yoot....

Cranky about having to drive through the mud and slop at the local scrap metal yard to get on the public weighbridge for a ticket... need that for the rego blue slip rigmaroll
There was a few comments about the plates on its maiden voyage to the local pub this arvo..
BK 05 YJ

Made it home .. near went through the back of the shed before stopping.
Brake fluid leaking from brake pipe /right rear wheel cyl.
Put the keys away. Get it to a brake specialist.. did i say i dont fiddle with brakes.
Also managed to fit one other "Newcastle Normie"accessory ....
While away at the bike rally last weekend i managed to chisel off a cool fox tail... poor bugger had been hit the night before and was still fresh when i came across him................just wasnt his day aye..
Hit by a 4X4 on his way home from the local chook pen.....and then cop the humiliation of having his tail cut off by some bogan .
The last foot of the old sly dog has been de-boned... tanned and is now proudly flying on the FJ's arial..
Hey...................... I couldnt be a Newcastle kid without a fox tail on da FJ
