Hi All
"spose ya wandering what i got today for my birthday.. sox... undies... bottle red?
Nup....
Read on....
Last saturday i spent the day helping eldest son Luke replace a worn out Diesel 2H motor in his 1985 Landcruiser ute. We where up early and went to the wreckers.. collected the motor and headed home. slung the old motor out ... swung the new one in.. got it bolted back on to the gearbox and engine mounts by 3.00pm.
By this stage i was knackered and just wanted to sit and have a beer...
Then i remembered the swap meet was on at Morriset. Quick shower... fill the FB panelvan up with goods and chattels to peddle off at the swap. ... Hook Rosie van on for comfy overnight accomodation and off i go.
Arrive at the swap and my usual spot was taken.. . so i motored around to the infield on the showground... ya sorta get a feel for who to camp next to.. and who not to... coupla ute loads of young guys with a pile of beer cartons ya couldnt climb over... keep rolling Reddo...
Eventaully pulled in next to a bloke selling old bowsers and oil bottles with a bit of early holden stuff laying about.
"G'Day mate.. my names Reddo .. wots yours"
"John"
"Mind if i swing in next door??... naa go right ahead.
Anyway the rest of the arvo was spent yarnin about old Holdens etc etc.
We vlooked after each others gear on the ground while one or the other went walkabout.
Later that evening the crowd at my van had grown from 2 to 6.. needless to say .. we ended up making more noise than the young guys and they went and complained to the organizers.... ;D ;D ;D
Up early the next morning. Made around $500 from my junk mounds.
Old mate mentioned he was doing up a panelvan and needed to sell his ute.....
This is where things got interesting...
I got his contact details and address.
Mentioned that i might be interested in his ute.
So we agreed that i should go and have a lookseee the next day. He lives about 1/2hr form home so no big deal travelling up there.
Spent 2 hours climbing over.. in .. and under the ute.
Yup.. i am interested.. didnt wanna sound too interested otherwise the price might increase...
Its about now he mentions his nephew wants the ute....the nephew is doing up anEH wagon....might take a while before i get an answer from him.. he is hard to catch...
So... i took a few photos and asked him to get back to me..
Then went home and stewed that the young dude wou.ld find the dosh.
*8.00am today... while laying in bed celebrating my birthday and shaking off the hangover of 6 stubbies i downed when i got home from work around midnight.... hey .. had to welcome in the great occassion.. and will probably see it out the same way around midnight tonight..
Oh yeah.. the phone call.. It was "John"
G'Day Reddo.... Nephew cant raise the dosh.. the car is yours.
Bloody bewdy mate.. i will shoot over the bank and be there in an hour....
Me n the missus shot up there and shelled out the skins... 12,000 of them..... Before old mate had a change of heart
So.. what the hell didja get fa ya birthday Reddo?
scroll down..................
Colour is more of a green than a blue.... i think he said seamist green.
Car wasa restored 10 years ago and has only done about 100 miles just sorting minor things out.
We stuck a new battery and some fresh fuel in it... wound over for 30 seconds , fired up and sat there idling like a swiss clock ( do clocks idle).
He's got the cheque... i have the reciept... headin back there next saturday to trailer it home...
So..... Reddos back in the Humpy club.
Just gotta work out what stays and what goes out of the shed now..
So.. is this a good birthday present or what??... ven if i had to buy it for myself ... i am happy.
Reddo
