Haha She'sgotthelook,
Have I told you my hubby rolls his eyes now with my Olympic vintage van fetish, given I'll have two now lol.
However, in saying that i've just bought a new car a 2009 Kluger Toyota in midnight blue, love the colour....so if I spend anymore money I think he's going to kill me pmsl
But funny i have been checking out the vintage cars which is also one of my other fetishes as my dad was a mechanic and we always had old cars around, morris minor, MG's, holdens, etc...so maybe one day
Cheers Tory

Been reading this with interest I shopped around quite a bit and in the end stuck with NRMA as I was a Gold Member anyway, was good coverage and relatively in expensive, Agreed value. 2nd year they kept the same value and premium was the same. Never had to claim as yet. Policy is on a 1959 Sunliner - did not strike any issues re coverage

Hi All Been doing the insurance thing over the past week, and got a surprise. I currently have caravan policies with GIO and Suncorp, but as of a few weeks ago, both will not insure a van over 30 years old. I have double checked this, and some of their staff are not aware of this situation. They both say go to CIL Insurance. I did today and was told I could only insure for what I paid for the van, 'ageed value'. As I currently see it, you either go to CIL, Shannons or NRMA/ or similar for caravan insurance. My GIO policy is due in two weeks, and I note they have changed the year from 1968 to 1983, -- 30 years. Now do I tell them they have the wrong year or do I wait to claim and I have not corrected their change ?, will they pay up -- NOT likely. So I will have to move so that I am sure I am covered. When I contacted CIL today they require 4x ext. and 2x int. photographs, before they will do business. Your comments . cheers boblor

I rang Shannons to say I'd sold one Viscount & wanted to insure another. Told them what I wanted to insure it for& they didn't bat an eyelid. Completely painless.

Hi Bob.
I have my Olympic & my Deejay both insured with Shannons.
Recently I was talking to a caravan repairer in Ballina, who recently repaired a bondy with lots of collision damage at front, that had been insured with Shannons for $40K.
They quoted on the repair, which I believe was over $20K ( but not sure), & got the job to fix it. Which they did, & everyone was happy, & they got paid.
My experience with Shannons on several minor damage repairs on my hotrod, is that they are very easy to deal with, & the repairers have been paid without stress.
I have both vans on NSW Historical rego.
My policies for $12K cover on each are around $70 each. But Historic rego ( club rego) restricts useage. The less you use something, the cheaper the insurance.
My rego only costs $21 per year, plus inspection.
A hell of a lot cheaper than full rego( Deejay was over $200, & the Olympic over $100), & for something you use occassionly, why would you have full rego. Historical rego in NSW is available to a person being a member of a club accepted by RTA, & the vehicle being 30 years old & unmodified.
Pretty simple in my mind.
I guess everyone has their favorites, & a lot have bad experiences with various companies.
But I've been with Shannons for over 20 years, had 2 or 3 claims, & have never had a problem. Maybe I'm the exception to the rule, but I dont care. I'm happy to stay as I am.

Our insurance for the Kennedy came up this month, so I did the ring around - most said they don't cover at all, being over 30yr, Shannons would only give me a quote because we had a classic car insured with them before - they won't take on new customers for caravans unless you have or had insurance with them. Yes they were cheaper quote, BUT he said they would only cover for strictly limited use (ie. very little!), and NO contents cover at all, not even as an option. We use our van very regularly, so we stayed with CIL - full cover no matter how often used. Only ever had to make a claim years ago with CIL, and it was painless. Apparently, Shannons, Suncorp, CIL and AAMI + heaps more are owned by the same mob!

Hi All Went to the NRMA today, 1967 Olympic, upped the insurance by $3500 on CIL, all done within ten minutes with a smile. Full use / agreed value, premuim $220. I think the reps all have different ideas, and we get the run around. Cheers boblor

I agree with LinPet. Shannon's won't insure my van as I don't have an existing policy with them and want to use it for recreational use. They said they wouldn't cover the contents anyway. They suggested I try CIL.
CIL will happily insure both my vans (1965 Viscount & 1979 Coronet) but they require photos of all 4 exterior sides and the interior before they will insure. FYI their quote for my 79 Coronet is cheaper than the current AAMI policy so I'm switching over. AAMI said they wouldn't insure my 65 Viscount because it's over 30 years old however they happily insured my 79 van when I bought it 3 years ago and allow renewal of the policy each year - it's now 35 years old! Go figure!

Just insured with Shannons . 1960 Sunliner. $15 000 agreed value. Salvage rights etc etc. $500 excess. $235 pa. Probably a bit steep but have confidence in them having had several cars insured with them in the past.

Hi
I just insured my 1967 15ft Franklin, RACV would only insure it for 20% more than original purchase price, so refused to take into account repairs and refurbishment so I couldn't get the agreed value I wanted. I then rang Shannons (I don't have anything else with Shannons ) they happily insured it for my agreed value for $60 less than RACV wanted and I got the agreed value I wanted. So I suggest go Shannons if you are in Victoria .

It's fun when you phone for a quote and you give a brand name . Then they check their list ......nothing Makes them think Wouldn't it be nice to have a friend in motor registry who could do a few searches for you to see what is registered . How many Dons, Pathfinders, Jennisons are out there ? Cheers Murray

I have all my insurance with NRMA. They now have Vintage Car and Vintage Caravan Insurance so Bluebird is insured with them. I definitely recommend NRMA to all

Hmmmm, interesting thread. I spoke to Shannons today about insuring a 62 carapark that I have purchased and collecting in a few weeks. It was an interesting conversation to say the least, and yes speaking with different staff members, they do give a different spin on things. I do not own a Vintage car (I can only dream) so they were quick to fob me off. I was looking for a company to insure my Delica (japanese import car) purchased today (who knew it would be an issue with most companies) as well as the carpark.. I had to prove to them that I was infact a "motor enthusiast". Well at least a VV Enthusiast. After what felt like an oral exam, talking the talk, convincing them that I know VV's, they insured my new car and my new van. Phew. They clearly explained about the $500 contents clause and said it could only be overcome by insuring our home and taking out the "away from home" cover (not sure of its proper name). Ive had lots of insurance over the years, including a heritage building and I have never had to work this hard to get a policy. You would just assume the criteria would be pre 70's. Im glad people here have good experiences with them. Makes me feel better about my experience today.

Ok peeps, slightly off track, but I am having a devil of a time getting insurance for my 1950's ski boat. Shannons don't do boats, RACV want $500+, Nautilus insurance need a condition report & 6 photos, GIO won't do it I'm getting frustrated.

Howdy everyone, hope you are all arm n dry,
I have recently bought a VV as posted other threads on the members photos etc... Today I spent several hours ringing around insurers to get it fully comprehensively covered, HARDER THEN I EXPECTED !!, RAA won't touch anything over 30 years old, Shannons aren't interested unless you're a "motoring enthusiast" APIA are just a plain old rip off as are AAMI and QBE, I ended up going through CIL.
All up van is insured for $7500 and the old canvas Annex is over insured for $2k costing a grand total of $24/mth or $290/yr with only $300 excess, I'm actually quite surprised as I expected it to be quite a lot more expensive after them being the only company that will cover it.
Interested to hear others experiences in this situation, I'm South Australian based. Next hurdle is to get the chassis number corrected on the rego papers gawd knows where they got the one on there now from.
