G'day Reddo The plate is 12mm mild steel which is the same as the old one (not cast just mild steel) so should be OK I reckon, but I will keep an eye on it just the same. Thanks for pointing these things out its the best way to try and make sure stuff doesn't go wrong! Here's the piccie! Cheers Doug

No John, Doug doesn't mess around does he ;D He is just trying to make you feel sorry for him and put the pressure on you to get his ute painted before Cowra. We kept telling him at Kenilworth that you had too much on your plate but he wouldn't believe us. I know what it is - he is just trying to get in quick before your prices go up at the end of the month ;D ;D ;D Regards Di

Workin on it Rod .... be nice if all that rain you sent up would ease up a bit ;D Today's effort, nearly there just the front and back screen to go and a few brackets ... This could be why the paint wasn't too good, doesn't look to be any primer on there ... Cheers Doug.

Hi Cruisindoug That first picture in your last post was kind of eerie! The FJ looked like Darth Vader's helmet...planned, or happy accident? Luke...I am your Father....Seeshell

Darth Vader certainly had a big secret under the paint .... Bog up to an inch thick in places Got the screens out today, the headlining and remaining brackets so into a bit of paint removal to see whats there, also maybe save a few bucks at the sandblasters by saving their time ... Cheers Doug.

Little do they know Doug that the ute goes under the name of the PHANTOM in the great south east.
Cheers Stan.

Nah Stan I reckon that name has been passed on to Steve and Sharon's Zephyr ... hoping so anyway! Made some progress .... A few nasties under the paint; I reckon the car will feel like its gained some horsepower after all the bog thats come out of it but on the up side no rust under it all other than the light surface rust that has caused the paint to bubble ... or was that because there was no apparent undercoat ... Anyway, progress is happening, its all good! Cheers Doug.

Gee ,you must have good neighbours to put up with all that grinding noise and dust !!! What you have done will save a lot of the sandblasters time. Were those big dents in the rear corners just full of bog too ? We're going to have some fun on this one. Did you say get it ready for Cowra John

hi Doug,
You dont muck about do you. I thought the ute looked pretty straight & clean when I saw it.
Thats a major project, but definitely still achievable before Cowra, provided you dont need to eat or sleep in that period.
its certainly the only way to get the car into the condition you want it to be.
I'm not as concerned about bog as you seem to be, as I've used over a long period. Provided its over a sound base, & aplied properly, I've found it works & lasts OK. But we all have different ideas & values .
Keep at it, & you will achieve what you want.

Have it ready in time for Cowra!! giving up work are we? sorry bit below the belt that one hey? but wouldn't it be nice, just staying home playing with the toys all day long, it will be worth it though after all that hard work Doug.

Dennis the ute had what I fondly reffered to as a 30 metre paint job .... looked OK at about that distance Don't have a problem with bog when applied properly, but I reckon when it gets to more than 25mm in places its getting a bit out there .... and some of the dents haven't even been attempted to be gotten even close! Having said that, I must admit with only a couple of exceptions around the car the bog wasn't even cracked! We will just have to wait and see for Cowra ... I do have some Long Service Leave up my sleeve ..... would be nice Derk but ya gotta pay the bills to have the toys aye ...

All parts are in epoxy now. We rolled the shell onto it's side and spent the day replacing inner sill and cutting out rust in the floor etc. Should have the underside finished and stonegaurd sprayed next week. Cheers John
