Hi all, I am guilty of 2 names for the one Van. When I first got the Sportsman Teardrop on the road it was towed by my 1927 Vauxhall sedan, which is named Charlie. (upmarket Brit, also its painted dark brown - hence Charlie Brown). I figured who else but Camilla should follow Charlie around! So Camilla the Caravan it was. The 1927 has been off the road for some time now with a blown motor. The next tow car was the Toyota Landcruiser, with which we towed the Van to W.A. in 2002. During a side trip (from Balladonia to Esperence via 300 k's of bulldust track and through the Duke of Orleans Bay area ) Karon was driving along a track and saw a sign - left to carpark and right to beach. She decided she wanted to see the beach and not the carpark. Over the hill and down a steep drop down a sandhill ONTO THE BEACH! Couldn't turn around so on to the beach we went, much to the amazement of the other 4WD guys waiting to come up the hill. Karon's comment as we drove along the beach - I JUST THOUGHT I WOULD TAKE MYRTLE (THE TURTLE) DOWN TO THE BEACH FOR A SWIM. Well, the kids and I fell about the car laughing so hard the name just sort of stuck, and I suppose there is more than a passing resemblance between the TD and a Turtle. ;D ;D ;D ;D cheers, Leigh.

Our little van already had her name when we bought her 11 yrs ago, DOROTHEA, is her name and we think that sounded pretty appropriate considering she was built in 1952, all wooden including chassis and windows, with a steel drawbar. The finned Kennedy is yet to be named, we will wait until she is on the road.
Cheers Exocet

Our van is called Pixie.... As Pixie was on it when we bought it & I am told that the manufacturer was Pixie ? befor being taken over by another company. So I'm told....... I would love to know for sure if this is true..... I would never had called it Pixie by choice but the name was on it.

My Carapark Zestline is called "Bess". Named by the artist who did the interior for the Big hART show, he named it for the dog at the Tomahawk shack community in Tasmania. It's also my late grandmother's name so it stuck...
If I had my choice it would be "Dunmanifestin'" from a comic novel where this was the name of the Greek and Roman God's nursing home....

Our Hawthorn is called "Caran" (as in Karen). Dale's little fella Shelby sometimes finds it difficult to get "Caravan" out, so there's a little tale to this...
When we were in the throes of negotiating with the owner's son, we would cruise past and check the van out.
Shelby usually gets "caravan" out as "cararan", so whenever we went past, he would call out, "It's Caran, look, it's Caran".
Thinking that he was getting his words jumbled again, we said "Yes, she's a caravan", to which he replied, "No, she's Caran" very firmly and in the tone that makes you feel like you've made the dumbest statement ever!
So Caran she is and we're not game enough to call her otherwise, because Shelby soon sets us straight.
He's picked out "his" bed, "his" cupboard and "his" spot at the table, although he's a little confused about the table becoming a bed...
Now that we have Caran at home, Shelby loves her, he goes out and says "Hello Caran" and gently pats her side, while telling me "We gonna fix her and make her all better".
This was great the first time until he headed off to Dale's shed. I was game enough to ask him, "Where are you goin mate?".
He said "To get my tools..." If you've ever seen this nearly three year old in action, he means what he says.
He's awesome with his motor skills, he can deftly turn a screwdriver, (a real one, not a toy)with one hand, has shown his Poppy how you really use a cordless drill and frequently helps Daddy working in the shed.
If he comes around wearing his overalls, you know there's some fixing coming on.
I think with our handy man around, Caran will be done in no time, well all the bits at nearly three year old height anyway...

Our 1953 ( or is 1954,....anyway, it's one of them years ) homebuilt bondwood is named "Daphne" which was the name of the original builder's wife. Our mid '60's Globetrotter is called "that old van of yours up the side of the shed when are you going to get rid of it and clean this yard up", or "TOVOYUTSOTSWAYGTGROIACTYU to be short . It was called that because its an old van that lives up the side of the shed. ;D ;D ;D and gets talked about when another Vintage one called "Grumblebum " reckons I need to get rid of some of my junk ( her words, not mine ) from around the yard. Terry ( and Grumblebum )

Hi, I have been thinking long and hard about this ;D Our first van had no name until Reddo asked what we called it , apparently "The Van "was not acceptable .Hearing that we had bought it from Mrs Constance Allison he has referred to it a couple times as "Allison", but it never felt right.Next I thought of "Connie", but still not right, then I tried "Ruby" as that was the Street name where our van had lived all its life until we aquired it Still didn't feel right, so after much thought I have made a decision TA DAH Drum roll Please meet "Jack ", as in Hit The Road Jack ;D ;D Obviously the problem I was having was that I had the wrong sex for the van So, Van No1 out of the way, Van No2 has two names, depending on whether you ask Col or me ;D " 51 Special " as per the badge on the Teardrop, or as we have painted it in citrus colours AND we bought it from a Mr Lemmon, "Lemondrop ", take your pick. ;D Van No3 Not sure yet, so suggestions please.Van is Castle brand, two of it's three portholes show a Mexican sleeping at the base of a palm tree, which seems appropriate as some (one) of you northeners keep referring to us as Mexicans down here. 'The Hacienda" has been suggested, but we are open to suggestions. Ok, do your best,Kris. ;D ;D

Hi Kris How about the Spanish word for castle being Castillo? Or better yet "Carlotta" just to get those guys lounging about under palm trees, up on their feet and doing something! Cathie

Just anuda thought on the Mexicans under the palm tree windows We use to live in the Brisbane outer suburb of Redland bay and there was a painting on the dide of a shed very similar to your windows. He called his place "Lazy B" with the B on a slant. Brings up all sorts of images. ;D ;D Regards Atog
