Just needing the year of the van so i can rego it soon. im thinking its more of a Viscount Ambassador than a Valiant now that i clean the top of the van where there used to be a sticker with a huge V then Ambassador next to it.
Any help would be great!!
I was going to paint the van white outside as many people have with theses vans but am open to comments, as maybe some have regretted the fact they did or were jumping for joy as it looked better!! any advice would be greatful , cheers

the van pictured is identical to my van & its a 1965 model. Im in the process of polishing the aluminium cladding on the outside at present and the van it is starting to look amazing. Im using a product called 'Alushine' and im rubbing it back by hand. Its very labour intensive but the results are fantastic. I reckon it would be a shame to paint the van as it would take that 60's appeal away.

Thankyou for identifying my Viscount Ambassador, I thought it may of been around the years of 1968 to 1971 but happy its a earlier model !
Is there any chance you could post some pictures of your Viscount when finished as I'll love to see what the outside looks like all polished up.
Ive noticed that the blue lighting flash paint is slowly coming off when i washed with soapy water, it looks like i,ll have to repaint!! Does anybody know what brand of paint is better to used?
Cheers

No problems, Ive still got a lot of polishing to do yet but i will post some examples soon. Ive got the same problem with the stripes washing off the van. The previous owners painted over the original blue/turquiose colour with a burgundy house paint & it looks shithouse. Im about to paint strip them off & have a panel shop re paint them onto the van with an automotive 2 pac paint. Its an easy job for them providing they have a baking oven/spraybooth big enough to put the van into. Looking at your pics your van has an almost identical dent in the exact same spot on the roof at the front of the van as mine. I like the original interior in your van. Very nice

Hello jann , i have a 1969-70 Viscount Ambassadore and I just finished re-painting the side stripes blue the paint I used was called Dulux weathersheild durable exterior gloss acrylic, maximum sun protection. Resistant to colour fading, Uv protection, Mould and dirt. Hope this helps, I will post some photos of mine when I work out how to do It.

Hi Jann, My van is also aluminium and I have started polishing first with soapy steel wool and then an aluminium polish. the soapy steel wool gets all the oxidisation off much easier. I have to paint my stripes again and I am going to use Dulux high gloss enamel with the addition of Penetrol. The penetrol ensures that it will adhere to the aluminium and will not peel and gives the paint a longer life. I use this on my restored antique engines with great success.
Regards Arthur

...I will post some photos of mine when I work out how to do It. Hi Grant, There are instructions on how to post photos in the 'Helpful Hints' section. Just look for the thread headed "Jim's instructions...". We look forward to seeing the pics of your Ambassador. Don Ricardo

Hi Jann. Welcome to the vintage van mob, i have just painted the blue stripes on our 1964 viscount and i used a paint by the brand of White Knight Epoxy Enamel i sprayed mine with about 10% acrylic thinners added but you can paint it by brush without the thinners if you prefer. Good luck. Cheers Sharpie.

Am so happy that the caravan is finally rego!! spot on 1965 from RTA I did come across one lil hurdle, the Rims where rusty and started to decay. I rang up everywhere to get hold of holden's hr 165/13 rims and found none available until a wreckers in Newcastle make's replica rims. I'll still keep looking but Ive also heard that 14" can fit too, is this correct??? & what brand? Cheers for your adviced on paint, am a bit confused but im sure I'll make the right choice soon! I do have a question about the hatch on how to replaced the rubber seals around the hatch & by looking at the edges do you think this would need just a laminated panel or replaced timber below the surface as its swollen with damp. Its rain here quite a bit and shows no signs of leakage as yet but to be sure whats the best thing to do!!! plz help!!!

Hi Guys and Gals, I'm loving the fact there is a group passionate about vintage caravans. I have a Viscount Royal that I'm currently getting rego'd and I've been asked about the year of manufacture. So I've read a few posts and to be honest still not sure about how to gauge the age. The Serial number is PV76245 if you could shed some light that would be awesome. I can see a 76 in there and I'm hoping it's that easy.
