An AVATAR is the small picture which appears under your user name in the left hand panel of each of your posts.

Displaying an "Avatar" is different to posting photos in a general thread in that you use a "direct link" code instead of an "IMG" code

You go to your “Profile”, at the top of the page it gives you the option to “modify profile”.... click on that and scroll down the page half way and you'll see where you can add an “Avatar”.......... where it asks for the Avatar URL .. that's where you put the second code that's under your photo in photobucket (it's called the “direct link” ).
You may have to fiddle with the width and hight to make it look right but keep at it and you'll get there.
