Mates,
NOBODY is older than me, (on this run). My mate, (Mrs. Cobber) and me spent 51/2 months driving ‘round oz--camping out as much as we could. (We did call into a caravan park for a shower whenever we noticed people giving us a wide berth). And I am here to tell you mates, there is nothing nicer than squatting behind a paper bark tree early in the morning as the sun comes up over the horizon (iron barks are useless) and, when all is said an done, we’ll only be on the road two or three days, eh? Reddo mate!--you shouldn’t have mentioned “camp cooking”, I anticipate more dissent from some of the less senior seniors on the run.
Your mate Cobber.

Kangarooing behind trees and sunburnt logs!!! Warning: Absolutely no Vintage Caravan content here just a funny Oz camping yarn.
I was away one weekend with the local fishing club on a overnight beach outing at Stockton beach. I was first up the next morning just on daylight. As my eyes opened my bowels let me know that they where ready to open too.
I grabbed the sorbent and took off over the sandhills to a nice secluded spot behind a small dune. happy with the location i dropped my duds and set about relieving last nights cooking ( sorry readers i am trying to keep this yarn as clean as possible). At this point i hear muffled voices which have a certain "CB Radio tone " to them. Over the hill less than 5 feet away comes about 30 four wheel drives packed with Jappo tourists.
The Nikon cameras where flashing off shots which left me blinded and disorientated. They must of thought i was an endangered australian wildlife species and i felt like a kangaroo in a shooters spotlight. There was little i could do under the circumstances so i just smiled and waved to 'em. I thought about waddling like a duck around to the blind side of the hill but it seemed pointless at the time.
The passing convoy moved on . i did what had to be "Done" and wandered back to camp thinking how famous i was gunna be when the japs got home and showed thier family the sandhill happy snaps.
Australia - ya gotta love it.

I hear what you're saying JBJ. It was just a thought that crossed my mind last night when I noticed a few members were online at the same time. I thought it would be nice to just say hi to them then and there while they were in the forefront of my mind. By the way, what else can I do with the jungle juice, besides start fires, travel to Victoria and back on 1 litre, blow up my house, or scorch my steak? ? I mixed it with Coke and am still seeing double She's quite a brew ;D ;D ;D Ray

Its been a short time on the forum, but mostly a hell of a lot of fun. I just wish more members would come out of their shells & contribute. It doesnt matter whether anyone agrees with you, or even likes your crap you put on line. Mark( the Grand poobah) edits most of the offensive stuff out. Thank you Mark for that. Well put Dennis I really appreciate everyone on this site, even the ones I disagree with. I mean, who ever gets on with their partner all the time. & I thank the WA guys, for starting this. I second that as well. Sometimes i wander if us eastcoasters have too much to say on this site. If you WAers are turning away from this forum because of my ( reddo) constant froth and dribble then please speak up and lemme know. After all you blokes and blokettes started the ball rolling and it is your commaradrie and run reports that have infected us "Othersiders' I really look forward to Morgan. You know I've been going to hot rod events for 40 years, including "Rods in Paradise" on the Gold Coast tomorrow. I look forward to meeting all the Forum members over the self centered hotrodders. Jailbarjuice Yep. Right again Dennis . Likewise i have been involved in fishing, junior soccer and bike clubs for many years and have found the same thing. Besides the love of old vans i think it could be the love of travelling , camping either in van parks or on ya own out in the scrub & seeing Oz that helps make the contributers to this site such likeable people. Ya just don't get that sort of interaction or mateship from booking into motels, closing the door behind you and 'holidaying" in isolation. Yep... i declare myself as one of the types in John Williamsons song "Old Farts in Caravan Parks" People often ask me how do you handle just sittin' behind a steering wheel for hours at a time. My reply again comes from another John Williamson song that says" The windscreen is just a travelling picture show" So long as i am lookin at countryside and not traffic clogged cityscapes i am a happy man. Enough dribble for now Reddo

Hi JBJ Can't see much benefit in my coming down your way and then going to Coonawhatever. It is easier and quicker for me to go to Dalby, Goondiwindi and straight down the Newell, from here. Much less traffic too! We can still meet there. I suggest the park on the North end of town - nice and shady and friendly owners. Will let you know the name of it when I look it up. Cheers Ray

;D Giddaay Reddo and all of you other East coasters who are the life blood and core contributors to this site Mark Ditzy Lyn and I met for a bite last night and discussed the way that you guys are revving the east coast and moving to wards your first run it is Quite an exciting time for the vintage van scene in Australia Because you guys are on the way to your first run it will only get better most of you guys will meet each other for the first time and form possibly life long friendships and Have become the East Coast Foundation Members and are creating an historic occasion just as we did at the Harvey Run when our core group first hit the road with our small group of seven vans Mark and Ditzy Lyn and I Trev and Carrots Snail and Karen Dave and Pat Tucky and Noeleen and Gentleman Jim Memories that will never fade our first run If you think about it The only way is up from here on in Due to your population size the core of the Vintage scene will eventually be where you are We are delighted with the personalities and the roles each of you are fulfilling grooming this site for future vintage vanners As You guys expand and grow this group on the East Coast that you are where the growth will happen As Jail bar juice said on his posting he was thank full for Mark kicking this site off due to the fact that it has created new friendships and even a sense of extended family well he is dead right our experience over here is exactly the same as Jailbars when he expressed his feelings We are an extremely close group and formed a family type bond with all of us looking forward to our next run in two weeks We are all excited about our Unique style of Club no Formal Meetings no fixed fees no individual responsibilities no Purple circle and no pressure can it get any better than that ? The stickers have been discussed and will remain original with no www.as cobber and Jim put forward and Ditzy is arranging the artwork and supply We are adopting Jailbars suggestion that the stickers cost $20.00 each plus postage At this moment the thoughts are they will cost around $8.00 each and $12.00 dollars will go to the forum costs and further expansion at a later date There are still a few problems with logging on as I am experiencing for some reason the site is no recognising my provider II net Some people are asking about a chat room some of the chat rooms require logging on it would be good if guests could contribute so I am suggesting Skype it is straight forward simple and it enables you to talk to anyone who is registered once you have there I.D.and when someone comes on line it pops up once skype is activated (1 click on the mouse) Thank you all for your individual contributions and we cant wait to meet all of you at Morgan Easter 2006 P.S. I would like to thank Mark and Ditzy on behalf of the group for there ongoing support to us all If there are suggestions or anything that you are not happy with regarding anything that has been discussed please respond with your suggestions asap as nothing is set in stone Will

Onya Will Thanks for the feed back. I was begining to feel that our east coast constant bombardment of the site had sent the west coast into retreat. Good to hear from you. I wanna set one thing straight though. No matter where the bulk of the contributors to this site are and no matter where the highest population of vans might be . This site will always remain the property of you guys over that side. It was with Mark and Ditzies vision and enthusiasm that this site got up and running and none of us should ever forget that. If it was left up to plebs like me that are flat out turning his Puter on , then we would be releasing pigeons to each other or stretching wire with jam tins on either end for communication. Mark, Ditzy, You and Lyn, Trev and carrots, surferboy , snail and karen and the rest of you W.A foundation members ( for want of a better word) from "The early Days" ( for want of a better word) kickstarted the groundswell The rest of us 222 have just got on the wave and surfed the enthusiasm along the way. Its photos like those at the Harvey run that i first viewed when i found this site that convinced me that vintage vanning is the sport of kings. Maybe not rich in wealth but definitely rich in friendship and enthusiasm. Cant wait for Coledale and hopefully the porcelain pig will have enough in him to poop out enough to sponsor the trip to "The great bend of the elbow run " next year. I asked Ditzy a while back about the sticker format The signwriters at work have a state of the art printer and can churn out hundreds of stickers. Might cost me a carton for a few hundred but who cares. Let me know what the go is . If Mark and Ditzy can make 100% profit on ever sticker then we should be set for life as far as forum costs go. I can get em done and post em over to mark for sale . Better if he holds them and deals with those that want em at whatever price. Yes??? ? No??? Just have to wait for the signies to get a chance to knock em up. Anyway thats it from me. I'm of to find a mop and bucket. Might retire to the lounge and pour myself a stiff Jailbar martini.... Hic, burp, fart, slurr, dribble, nod, snore.......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Reddo from the far side

Greetings Earthlings
Do you think the Caretaker would mind if we have a Gymkana through the garbage bins ( see photo 1) with the vans still attached ...... They look tempting. Would make for good therapy after driving on long boring straights for 3 or 4 days. Could finish off with a bit of B&S type circle work under the sprinkler down the end.........yeeeeehhhhhaaaaa!!!!
Who ya callin' a hoon???

Hey Reddo Three years ago I just went for a drive whilst visiting daughter in Cairns. Ended up in Darwin!!!! Almost ended up with a wedgetail eagle on my lap, when it smashed into my screen on the way over there! I guess you could have your gymkana there, because the view of pic 1 is of the park in front of the caravan park - that belongs to he council, and of course they won't mind what we do there!!!! ?? Jailbar - you can't keep away from us, can you!!!! The van was a waste of time. Aren't you enjoying yourself over there??? What happened, didn't you bring enough of JB hooch with you ;D ;D Ray

Hi JBJ The idea of headin' on down to the big river run appeals to me but .......... The way my bank account is being emptied at the moment ( Xmas, dontcha jist luv it ??) i doubt if i am gunna have enough to buy yesterdays newspaper let alone sponsor the Morgan trip . Perhaps i wasn't joking when i said i might have to sell one of my bikes to sponsor the trip. I'm depressed. Reddo

Reddo plots his course to Morgan Months will soon become weeks will soon become days will soon become hours Before ya know it the great bend of the elbow will be poking you in the ribs tellin ya its time to hitch up and go. Been fiddling with travelmate again. Newcastle to Morgan 1400k or 875 miles @ 17.5 hrs (thank god they havent converted time to metric measurements. I still like to work things out in the old scales) Day one - saturday 15th outta bed at sparras fart cause i wont have slept too well. On the road by 6 or 7 at the latest. Newcastle to Sydney and pick up the cobbers out around eastern creek ( 2 hours) somewhere ( Y/N cobber ??) Off over the blue mountains to Bathurst then on through Grenfell to an overnight stay at West Wyalong total distance from Newcastle 613k @ 8.5 hrs from sydney 500k @ 7hrs Day Two - sunday 16th West wyalong to Mildura. 545k @6.5hrs Possibly hook up in Hay with JBJ and Ray. They have 2 days and 1327k from Alstonville to Hay @16.5hrs. Dont have to get to mildura today might pull up short at Balrenald for the night. lot smaller town and probably less hassle than staying in the big smoke of Mildura for the night. Day 3 - Monday Mildura to Morgan 264 K or 364 from Balrenald @ 3.5 hrs or 4.5 hrs This should see me roll up to the caravan park around lunchtime as they are kicking out the easter campers. Obviuosly these times will blow out due to meal breaks, stretches, convenience stops and the unthinkable (mechanical failures). But providing nothing major blows up, falls off, snaps, overheats, cracks or gives up the ghost i reckon i will still be there on Monday sometime. Other useless information is: fuel consumption holden red with pile of splinters dragging behind 20 mpg ( wishfull thinking here folks) divided into 875miles = 44 gallons or roughly 205 litres i reckon more like 60 gallons (300 litres). Had a play with travelmate fuel prices: Premium unleaded at the following places. i reckon they are quoting "plain jane" unleaded prices here.= Bathurst ... $1.26 west wyalong..$1.29 Mildura ..$1.26 Yamba . S.A.. $1.33 300 litres @ average $1.30 /litre =$390. I plan on bringing a few jars of pacific ocean saltwater to swap with the west coasters indian ocean saltwater. Sorta make ourselves salt water blood brothers. So there ya go. i could leave a day earlier and break it down to 4 days at about 400 k a day. but i get bored if i stop driving halfway through the day. I will keep an eye on the input from other pacific coasters. All this is just my rantings . Someone will probably have a better idea and i am more than willing to go along with any better suggestions. some people like to travel on thier own some like to travel in the safety of numbers. Its up to them. As for the run home dunno.... . i have left it too late for rego at the big river rod run. Will probably spend a week and wander over to Bendigo, Ballarat and scratch around the sights then head over to Wangaratta to check out a few vintage bike shops. Would have like to have hit the Great Ocean Road but i might save that for a few weeks away on the bike . Gotta do it before i get too old to throw a leg over Reddo

Hey there Jailbar you are dead right about the Gas I have to make a right decision what to take with us I am thinking about Using Lyns Trusty steed at least its the same colour as the teardrop I can take a car cover and hide it We have to go to Sydney for a seminar and training course and then to Airlie beach to see my son Chris who has a business there Its about an Eighteen thousand K trip so you see my dillema with the uncertainty about gas it makes it difficult to take the f100 when we did the geraldton springtime run Roger with the 37 ford and teardrop ran out of gas about 30 ks from geraldton and we just made it however Trevs Tram weighs a lot more than the teardrop and being aero dynamic will help the gas go further What would you do Jailbar if you were me Will
