Hello all. My name is Shaun Hammond and I am a journalist with the Gold Coast City Council. I organsie media events and opportunities around council events and initiatives and I have one coming up that may interest you. In late April 08 (23 - 29th?) Council will be celebrating the launch Gold Coast Heritage Expo (begins May 10) and this year's theme is "Coming to the Gold Coast" focusing on the post- World War 2 motoring holiday scene (which put the Gold Coast and Surfers Paradise on the 'holiday map'). In line with this year's theme I am looking at organising media coverage of classic vans (and owners) to recreate the 'beachside holiday experience' of the 1950's 60's ect. I can guarantee excellent media expousure for participants - including: television (local and state), newspapers and abc radio coverage. Ideally vans and owners would be needed for one day (date of which to be organised) however depending upon the level of interest, vans and owners may be 'compnesated' for having their vans on display for an extended period of time. Please feel free to drop me an email if this concept sounds like you. In the mean time I will investigate if there is a chance of 'putting up' some vans and owners in one of our council owned tourist parks to thank you for your assistance. Cheers and happy trippin'.

Hi Shaun, I have a 1961 EK Holden and 1965 Globe Trotter - Gold Coaster van you may want to use. Will depend on the date as to whether I can bring the van down from Brisbane. Pity it wasnt the school holidays I could holiday down the coast for a week. We usually take the van to the Tallebudgera camping ground. Will talk again when you know the dates. Margy

Hello happy campers! Sorry about the delay in getting back to you all, however I have had some significant logistical challenges to deal with in pulling this one together. Anyway enough of my dramas, let¡¯s get to the good stuff. I have been able to put together a list of the ¡°who, what where when and why¡± regards your potential involvement in the Gold Coast Heritage Week media launch, details are as follows: ¡ñ WHEN: Those of you wishing to participate in the media launch will be staying at Gold Coast City Council¡¯s Burleigh Heads Tourist Park. I have reserved six sites at the park from Tuesday 22nd - Saturday 26th April 2008 , and those sites will be made available to you free of charge as a way of saying thank you for your assistance in promoting the Heritage Expo. Just for those who have not visited Burleigh Beach Tourist Park, it is located on Goodwin Terrace and is a popular family-friendly caravan park, offering great value accommodation in the heart of the Gold Coast. The park is situated directly opposite a patrolled surf beach, and within walking distance to countless shops and cafes. Burleigh Beach is a great base to enjoy the Gold Coast. ¡ñ MEDIA LAUNCH: On Wednesday 23rd April at approximately 10:30am the media launch will be held at Burleigh Heads ( I have identified a fantastic spot to place the vans / vehicles that captures a full panorama ¡®shot¡¯ of the Gold Coast skyline in the background). The media launch will be attended by Channel 9 and NBN (northern NSW) - Channel 7 and Channel 10 will also hopefully attend. The Gold Coast Sun, Gold Coast Bulletin and the Tweed Border Mail will attend ¨C as should ABC radio. They will basically take pictures and footage of the vans / vehicles and want to talk to those of you who are happy to talk to them. I imagine that a motorcade of vans / vehicles will also be on the cards afterwards, where we can stop at a couple of the Gold Coast¡¯s iconic locations for yourselves and the media to take photos While I¡¯m talking about ABC radio ¨C they have also expressed strong interest in doing a ¡®live broadcast¡¯ at the caravan park talking to you all about your vans / vehicles and stories of being ¡®on the road¡¯. At this stage I will negotiate a suitable time with you all if this is to go ahead, but if it does happen we will be putting on a huge BBQ for you during the day¡¯s broadcast. The rest of your stay on the Gold Coast is yours to enjoy! ¡ñ HERITAGE EXPO: On Saturday 10th May 2008, The Gold Coast Heritage Expo will be held in Robina (suburb next door to Burleigh Heads) and I invite you to display your vans / vehicles as part of the Expo. Once again those of you wishing to attend will also receive lots of media attention on the day, which is from 9am ¨C 5pm. We would also have sites available for you at Burleigh Beach Tourist Park from Friday 9th May ¨C Sunday 11th May, to thank you for your participation in the Expo. ¡ñ R.S.V.P: Could you all please let me know if you are (a) interested in attending the media launch, and (b) interested in attending the Heritage Expo? My work email is shammond@goldcoast.qld.gov.au and my mobile is 0417 008 963 and please do not hesitate to contact me with questions etc. I eagerly await your response. Cheers.
